Panic gripped residents of the Mbalom community in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Easter Sunday following an attack by suspected armed bandits.

The attackers reportedly stormed the community, killing several residents in the process.

Sources said more than 17 bodies have so far been recovered, while many others remain unaccounted for. A number of houses were also destroyed during the assault.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to contact the State Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered

Turkey: Super Eagles captain Ndidi faces ban

0

Beşiktaş captain Wilfred Ndidi is at risk of suspension ahead of next weekend’s Turkish Süper Lig fixture against Antalyaspor.

The former Leicester City midfielder will face a one-match ban if he receives a yellow card in Sunday’s Istanbul derby between Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş.

According to Süper Lig regulations, any player who accumulates four yellow cards over the course of the season is automatically handed a one-game suspension. Ndidi currently has three bookings to his name this term.

His first caution came on his league debut against Eyüpspor, followed by additional bookings in matches against Göztepe and Kasımpaşa.

Despite this, Ndidi has remained a key figure under manager Sergen Yalçın, starting 20 of the 21 matches he has been available for this season.

He was absent for December’s encounter with Rizespor due to international duty with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. After returning, an injury sustained in Morocco sidelined him for back-to-back fixtures against Kayserispor and Eyüpspor in January before he was later granted compassionate leave in February.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian internationals Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen have already served suspensions this season in Turkey due to yellow-card accumulation.

It’s like their business—Davido makes U-turn on joining politics in Nigeria

0

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he is no longer enthusiastic about venturing into politics, pointing to the mixed fortunes of celebrities who have made similar transitions.

The Afrobeats singer made the remarks during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel, where he reflected on his earlier political ambitions and the realities that have shaped his current stance.

According to Davido, observing the experiences of entertainers who moved into politics has made him more cautious about pursuing such a path.

He admitted that while he once had a strong interest in partisan politics, his successful music career and the perception of celebrities in governance have made him reconsider.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built—it is tricky because of the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he said.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” Davido added.

ADC: They bought faulty product—Reno Omokri mocks Atiku, Peter Obi, Amaechi

0

Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a “professional group of jumpers” and insisting the party should accept responsibility for its deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Omokri specifically faulted the faction of the party led by David Mark, saying it was responsible for the current crisis and should not shift blame to others.

In a statement titled “INEC De-registration: ADC Professional Party Jumpers Have Only Themselves to Blame,” Omokri said he expected the group to clearly explain its interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling delivered on March 12, 2026, but was disappointed by its response.

“I read the statement from the spokesperson of the David Mark group in the African Democratic Congress who rejected how INEC interpreted the March 12, 2026, Court of Appeal ruling, and I was expecting them to share their own understanding of that judgment.

“But nothing came up, which doesn’t make sense. The David Mark group from the ADC clearly caused this disaster on their own,” he said.

He advised the faction to abide by the court’s decision if it intends to challenge the ruling, stressing that respect for the law is essential.

“If they chose to appeal the decision, the David Mark group should follow the Court of Appeals’ ruling, since they are supposed to obey the law,” he added.

Omokri also warned against attempts to incite public sentiment against INEC, describing such actions as dangerous.

“Trying to stir up public anger against INEC and weaken the election authorities is a risky and desperate action by the David Mark group,” he said.

He further argued that the party’s challenges were predictable, attributing them to what he described as politically motivated interests rather than democratic ideals.

“Their shift into the ADC was driven by business interests rather than by a natural sense of democracy,” he stated.

Omokri dismissed claims that INEC was being controlled by the ruling All Progressives Congress, urging the faction to take responsibility for its decisions.

“Instead of blaming INEC or accusing the All Progressives Congress of controlling the INEC through tele guidance, the David Mark group from the ADC should understand that they bought a faulty product.

“They should either fix the problems with what they bought or find a different political party. With elections just ten months away, I don’t think they have enough time to start a new party from scratch,” he said.

Residents of Konshisha Local Government Area in Benue State are mourning the sudden death of a former council chairman, Moses Shirsha, who passed away just four days after losing his wife, Mercy Mngu Shirsha.

Shirsha, a former leader of the Konshisha LGA, reportedly died while making arrangements for his late wife’s burial, deepening the grief among his family, friends, and associates.

The incident was confirmed in a Facebook post on Friday by a former staff member, Ukeyima John Ukmoni, who expressed shock over the loss.

“With deep sorrow but total submission to the will of God, this is the burial arrangement of my first boss, Hon. Moses Shirsha (former Chairman Konshisha LG), the very first man I ever worked for, who departed this life after hearing the shocking loss of his beloved wife, Mrs. Shirsha Mercy Mngu,” he wrote.

According to details shared in the post, a wake is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the late chairman’s residence in Makurdi.

Both Shirsha and his wife are to be laid to rest on Friday, April 10, 2026, at their family compound in Shirsha Adeega Village, Mbaasuku, Mbator Gaav, in Konshisha LGA.

2027: I’ll support Peter Obi, Amaechi, or whosoever emerges from ADC- Atiku

0

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, including a young aspirant.

Speaking in an interview with DW Hausa, Atiku dismissed concerns that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could frustrate the party, stressing that the ADC continues to gain traction and attract members across the country.

He said, “We will support and endorse whoever emerges as the flag bearer. How many are we (presidential aspirants), three or four? In the PDP, more than ten of us contested.

“The youths have taken over the party. Most of those seeking elective positions, from councillor to state assembly, national assembly, and House of Representatives, are young people. We have always said our party belongs to youths and women. Our role is to create the opportunity and hand it over to them.”

When asked whether he would support a young presidential candidate if the party presented one, Atiku responded, “Yes, why not.”

He added, “Allah has done everything for me. I have brought my sons and grandchildren home. What will be their future and that of their children?”

Wike clears air on threatening to shoot Channels TV’s Journalist Okinbaloye

Wike Minister of FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has clarified his controversial comments about Seun Okinbaloye, stating that his remarks were not meant to be taken literally.

Wike had earlier said he would have “broken his TV screen and shot” Okinbaloye over the journalist’s comments that a one-party system would undermine democracy in Nigeria, sparking widespread backlash. Amnesty International condemned the statement, describing it as “reckless and violent language.”

However, in a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, the minister said his words were exaggerated and taken out of context.

“The minister never meant that he would shoot Seun Okinbaloye. They even spoke on the phone today, and he (Okinbaloye) understood what the minister meant,” Olayinka said.

He explained that Wike’s reaction stemmed from disappointment, noting that the minister believed Okinbaloye, whom he holds in high regard, had “descended into the political arena by speaking as an interested party instead of an interviewer.”

According to the statement, the comment was made in a hyperbolic context and was intended as an expression of frustration rather than a real threat.

“The statement made by the minister was in a hyperbolic context, which was clearly without intent. It was primarily using exaggeration to make a point,” he said.

Olayinka added that Wike had already clarified his position during the live television program, where journalists present reportedly laughed after his explanation.

“Even after the minister made the clarifications on the live television program… all the journalists who were interviewing him just laughed,” the statement noted.

He further stressed that Wike had explicitly stated on air that he did not mean he would “carry a gun and shoot the television anchor,” warning against misinterpreting the comment.

“The public is therefore urged to discontinue the use of the comment as an instrument of blackmail and propaganda by those whose intent is to misrepresent facts for their political gains,” Olayinka added.

Intolerate descent—Atiku makes three demands from Wike over threat to Channelstv journalist

0

The former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has described the threat by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to Channels Television anchor Seun Okibaloye as an authoritarian trait and a sign that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is intolerant.

Atiku Media Office disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Recall that Wike, in an interview with Okibaloye, said he would have shot the journalist over his question on Tinubu’s being accused of drifting the country into a one-party system.

Wike’s comment has stirred reactions.

Reacting, Atiku demanded that Wike immediately apologize to Okibaloye, with public condemnation by Tinubu’s government and assurance to protect journalists.

“We must ask: if a prominent journalist can be threatened so brazenly on national television, what protection exists for the ordinary Nigerian?

“The Atiku Media Office states, without equivocation, that this reckless conduct is unacceptable and must not be allowed to stand.

“We therefore demand the following: An immediate and unconditional public apology from Nyesom Wike to Seun Okinbaloye and the entire Nigerian media community; A clear and public repudiation of this dangerous rhetoric by the administration of Bola Tinubu; Concrete assurances for the safety and protection of journalists across Nigeria.

“Anything short of this will confirm what many Nigerians already fear—that this government is not merely intolerant of dissent, but increasingly comfortable with the language and instruments of repression,” the statement.

Blessing CEO makes u-turn on having stage 4 cancer[Video]

0

Controversial self-acclaimed relationship expert Blessing CEO has responded to widespread rumors about her health and alleged fundraising, offering clarification on her cancer diagnosis and addressing public speculation.

Speaking during an interview on the online show Young and Healthy Bros hosted by Egungun, Blessing said confusion over her condition stemmed from miscommunication.

“I don’t have stage 4 cancer. That was a miscommunication,” she said.

She explained that while initial assessments suggested the lump was non-cancerous, further medical tests confirmed otherwise.

“I just received my biopsy results. Initially, the lump was thought to be non-cancerous, but later tests revealed it is cancerous. I haven’t started chemotherapy yet, and I’m still awaiting further tests to determine the exact stage.”

Addressing claims about large sums of money being raised for her treatment, Blessing dismissed the reports as exaggerated.

“The money raised is not hundreds of millions as some people think. It’s just 13 million naira,” she noted.

She also defended her decision not to publicly share her medical records.

“I will not post my results online because it’s personal, and I don’t owe anyone an apology. I’m just trying to communicate what the doctors have told me.”

Blessing stressed that she is focused on understanding her condition and carefully considering her treatment options.

“I just want to be sure about what I am doing. I’m not a doctor; I’m only sharing the updates I receive from them,” she added.

Tinubu: “I would’ve shot him”—Wike blasts Channels TV anchor Seun over one-party remarks

0
Wike Minister of FCT

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sharply criticized Channels Television presenter Seun Okinbaloye over his comments warning against a one-party system in Nigeria.

Okinbaloye had raised concerns on Thursday during his program, following the controversial derecognition of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a court ruling.

He said, “I am particularly pained because what makes the race very interesting is when it is competitive; not only does one party stands in the middle of the ballot, butstand you’re also looking for the rest of the political parties.

“When some of us talk, it looks like our mouths are smelling. And we have been on this ground for a while.

“There are a lot of experienced men in the ADC that should have seen the devil in some of the issues that have been raised in the past months. Particularly, it looks like one of the hopes of the opposition going into 2027. If this hope is dashed, we are doomed democratically,” the anchor stated.

Responding at a media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike expressed strong displeasure at the remarks.

“I was thoroughly surprised yesterday. When I was watching Seun’s Politics Today.

“If there is anyway to break the screen, I would have shot him. How can an interviewer say, “We cannot allow a one-party state,” Wike said.
