0

Opposition political parties in Nigeria have agreed to present a unified presidential candidate to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2027 general election.

The decision was reached on Saturday during a national summit of opposition party leaders held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, attended the meeting alongside other key stakeholders.

Members of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were also present at the summit.

Although the leaders agreed on the need for a single candidate, a consensus has yet to be reached on who will emerge as the flag bearer.

Among those being considered as potential contenders are Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi.

A viral video has captured a moment where a man, seen wearing a cap associated with President Bola Tinubu, struggled to take a selfie with Peter Obi during a public appearance in Lagos State.

Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, was attending an event when a large crowd gathered around him, with many supporters attempting to take photos. Voices in the crowd could be heard chanting, “My president, Peter Obi, is here, everywhere stew.”

The man, believed to be a supporter of Tinubu, appeared enthusiastic as he exchanged pleasantries with the former Anambra State governor while trying to capture a selfie.

Obi, who lost the 2023 presidential election, is reportedly positioning for another presidential bid in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). While several opposition figures are said to be interested in the party’s ticket, indications suggest Obi could emerge as its presidential

Nigerian Troops Gun down 31 Terrorists, rescue kidnap victims in nationwide operations- DHQ

0

The Nigerian military says its troops neutralized at least 31 terrorists and rescued several kidnapped victims during coordinated counter-terrorism operations carried out across the country between April 17 and April 23.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to him, troops under Operation HADIN KAI recorded significant gains in the North-East, including the killing of 21 terrorists during a foiled attack at Kukareta along the Maiduguri–Damaturu Road in Yobe State. Additional insurgents were also neutralized during ambushes and fighting patrols in parts of Borno State and Yobe, with arms and ammunition recovered.

Onoja further revealed that troops rescued nine captives who had escaped from the Mandara Mountains, thwarting attempts by terrorists to recapture them. He also noted that a suspected logistics supplier transporting fuel concealed in sachet water bags to terrorist locations was intercepted.

In the Northwest, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out ambushes and clearance operations in Kaduna State and Zamfara State, leading to the neutralization of terrorists, destruction of camps, and rescue of abducted victims. A suspected courier transporting materials for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) was also intercepted.

Operations SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE, and WHIRL STROKE in the North-Central zone resulted in the arrest of suspected terrorists and collaborators, alongside the rescue of more kidnapped victims. Troops also recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials while dismantling illegal hideouts.

In the South-East, troops under Operation UDO KA arrested suspected members of proscribed groups and other criminal elements, including individuals linked to attacks on security personnel.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism in the ongoing operations.

EPL: Three Premier League fixtures that could produce surprise results

0

As the Premier League season enters its closing weeks, attention turns to a crucial round of fixtures that could shape both the top and bottom of the table.

This weekend, Chelsea and Manchester City will not be in league action due to their FA Cup semi-final clashes against Leeds United and Southampton, respectively.

However, several other matches could deliver unexpected outcomes.

Wolves vs Spurs

Wolverhampton Wanderers have already been relegated from the top flight this season, but they could still influence the relegation battle. Their opponents, Tottenham Hotspur, remain in danger and are enduring a poor run, having failed to win in 2026. With Wolves playing without pressure and Spurs struggling for form, an upset is a real possibility.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool FC are currently well-placed to secure fifth position, especially after Chelsea dropped points in recent weeks. But consistency is key at this stage. Crystal Palace arrive at Anfield in solid form and are pushing to break into the top half, making this a potentially tricky encounter for the hosts.

Manchester United vs Brentford

Manchester United appear to have their Champions League qualification largely secured, but their visitors have plenty to fight for. Brentford FC are surprisingly in contention for a top-four finish with just five games remaining. A positive result at Old Trafford could boost their ambitions, and they will be aiming to take advantage of any complacency from United.

Oil: Russia explains real reason for US action in Iran, Venezuela

0

Russia has accused the United States of pursuing its actions in Iran and Venezuela primarily to gain control of oil resources.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Washington’s military and political moves in both countries are motivated by economic interests tied to energy dominance.

Speaking in an interview with state media, Lavrov alleged that the US prioritizes its own economic gains and is prepared to deploy tactics such as coups or targeting foreign leaders to secure access to natural resources.

He added that the US operates a doctrine aimed at dominating global energy markets and does not conceal the role oil plays in its foreign interventions.

Lavrov also criticized what he described as the weakening of international law, arguing that global decisions are increasingly influenced by power rather than established rules.

“America’s actions in countries like Iran and Venezuela are driven only by oil interests,” he said.

FCCPC seals off Abuja Paradise Estate over failure to deliver homes

0

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed Paradise Estate, located in Life Camp Extension, Abuja, over its failure to deliver homes that had already been paid for by subscribers.

According to the commission, the action followed numerous public complaints and other issues raised by subscribers regarding the estate. Despite these complaints, FCCPC said the estate’s management failed to meet the demands of the affected buyers.

As a result, officials of the commission visited the estate, leading to the eventual sealing of the premises.

Speaking to journalists, the FCCPC’s Deputy Director of Surveillance, Marvin Nadah, said the developer had been given a seven-day deadline to respond to an official summons but did not comply.

“The Commission has been inundated with complaints, particularly in the real estate sector, and some of those complaints were specific to Estates Limited,” Nadah said.

However, Paradise Homes’ Head of Legal, Aloysius Ezenwa, maintained that the transactions are covered under the existing “Contract of Sale,” while also confirming the development.

DSS arraigns El-Rufai over alleged phone interception of NSA Ribadu

0

Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday arraigned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over allegations that he unlawfully accessed a telephone conversation involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The case is being heard before a federal high court in Abuja, where the prosecution filed an amended five-count charge against the former governor. At the start of proceedings, the prosecuting counsel informed the court that the original three-count charge had been expanded to five counts.

Presiding judge Joyce Abdulmalik subsequently struck out the earlier charges following the amendment.

El-Rufai entered a plea of not guilty to all five counts.

The charges stem from remarks he made in February during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time program, where he claimed that “someone wiretapped” Ribadu’s phone. According to him, the alleged interception enabled him to hear the NSA directing security operatives to carry out his arrest.

My mother doesn’t want me to give my father money – Peller

0

Popular Nigerian streamer Peller has revealed that his mother discourages him from giving financial support to his father, citing ongoing pressure from him.

He made the statement during a livestream while reacting to the ongoing family controversy involving content creator GehGeh.

Reports indicate that GehGeh recently came under fire after his younger sister accused him of neglecting his siblings despite his perceived wealth. In response, he explained that although he is the first in his family to attain financial success, his resources are not sufficient to lift the entire family out of poverty. He added that he can only do his best without jeopardizing his own stability and encouraged his siblings to seek employment.

Commenting on the situation, Peller expressed concern that he could face a similar backlash from his own family. He disclosed that his father had previously threatened to call him out publicly over financial matters.

Explaining the pressure he faces, Peller said:

“My mummy doesn’t want me to give my daddy anything, but I still give it to him because he pays my school fees. I give him money and even buy a car for him, but he still asks for more the next day.”

He added that despite his continued support, the demands from his father have persisted. Peller also noted that he has made significant contributions to his mother’s welfare, including setting up several businesses for her.

The streamer had earlier spoken about his upbringing in an interview with Frank Edoho, where he linked some of his academic struggles to the impact of his parents’ separation.

Tension as VeryDarkMan, Kuti unfollow each other

0

Popular Nigerian influencer VeryDarkMan and singer Seun Kuti have unfollowed each other on Instagram, fueling speculation about a possible fallout between the two.

The move comes amid VeryDarkMan’s ongoing legal dispute with Blord and has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many suggesting tension between the former allies.

Although the exact cause of the apparent rift remains unclear, Seun Kuti appeared to take a jab at VeryDarkMan’s supporters—known as “Ratel”—in a viral Instagram story shared on Wednesday. In the post, he wrote, “You are rats, not ratels. Why una dey disguise?”

The development is particularly surprising to observers, given that VeryDarkMan had publicly backed Seun Kuti just weeks earlier during his clash with Wizkid over alleged disrespect toward the legacy of his father, Fela Kuti.

VeryDarkMan, who has been regarded as a close associate of the singer, also recently made headlines after visiting Fela Kuti’s gravesite, where he reportedly performed a ritual involving a ram.
