I’ve served Ndigbo better than anyone- Simon Ekpa

The Prime Minister of Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, Simon Ekpa said he has served Ndigbo and its interest for self-rule better than anyone.

Ekpa, who was the leader of the Igbo Community in Finland from 2015 to 2019 disclosed this in a statement on Sunday through his X account.

According to him, while he was the Chairman of Igbo Union Finland, he took Ndigbo and secured financial support from the Finnish government through cultural stipends and other efforts.

He noted that he facilitated the acceptance of the Union into the Finnish 100-year centenary under his chairmanship.

He added that despite frustration from people, the Union was able to strive under his watch.

“I have served Ndigbo better than they can ever attempt to do.

“When I was the Chairman of Igbo Union Finland. It is on record, i was the only Chairman who secured Financial support from the Finnish government through cultural stipends and opened many doors for Igbo Union Finland.
“As the Chairman, I facilitated the acceptance of the Union into the Finnish 100-year centenary, signed by the Finnish Prime Minister back then. Nobody has such capacity to represent Ndigbo in Finland.

“I served the Igbo Community in Finland from 2015 to 2019, which is a complete Four years.

“These persons refused to contribute money during my tenure, yet the government of Finland supported the union financially then.  But when I was not the chairman, I was the highest donor for any event. It is on record, that I supported every other chairman, but it gets to my turn. None of them want to bring out money, thinking my leadership will fail. But it was the highest, the most successful of them all. The first time we celebrated the Iriji festival without contributing money.

“Today, they can’t even organise ordinary Iriji Festival”, he said.

Ekpa warns Anyaoku against sabotaging Biafra Independence

Ekpa warns Anyaoku against sabotaging Biafra Independence

The Prime Minister of Biafra Republic Government In-Exile has warned the former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku against sabotaging the actualization of Biafra Independence.

Ekpa made this known in a statement through his official X handle on Saturday.

His warning comes after Anyaoku led a group of Nigerian Elderstatemen, the Patriot to visit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday at the Presidential Villa.

Anyaoku had advocated for a change to Nigeria’s Constitution.

However, Ekpa stressed that Anyaoku should not allow himself to be used as a pun against Biafra’s agitation for self-rule.

He lamented that Anyaoku had been silent despite the marginalization and killings of Biafrans in the South-East and South-South.

“Emeka Anyaoku while they used late Ezeife, Obiozor, Iwuanyanwu, Ifeanyi Ubah and now it is your turn.

“They have dragged you out from your shell of hiding and silence in the presence of the massacre of Biafrans in the SouthEast and South-South.

“You never condemn the killing of the people you claim to be speaking for. Whoever knows Emeka should warn him to stay away from anything that will sabotage our freedom or the wrath of the land will fall on him.

“We always warn before calling on the gods to go after you. We will not warn him again”, he said.

Keep an eye on the Biafra Self-referendum

0

While attending a recent screening of the documentary ‘In the Shadow of Biafra’ at King’ s College London, a debate occurred about the impact of the Nigerian-Biafra war on current events in Nigerial. The documentary portrays the Nigerian-Biafran war in the late 1960s through the lens of Nigerian writers, showcasing how perceptions of the war vary depending on generation.

However, some audience members were concerned that the documentary only looked at Biafrans’ struggle for independence through a historical lens and thus, firmly confining it to the past instead of highlighting the continued fight of many Biafrans for an independent state

Currently, the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) is holding a self-referendum to actualize the Biafra Republic peacefully. The first round of voting started in February 2024 and was completed on May 30th, 20242. This will be followed by two consecutive rounds
of voting commencing later this month and lasting until November 20248.

After the commencement of the first round of voting, the Prime Minister of BRGIE, Simon Ekpa, said that over 30 millioncBiafrans voted in the self-referendum,
which surpasses the number of voters in the 2023 Nigerian presidential
election. Ekpa also announced that the
Restoration of the Independent State of
Biafra would take place following the completion of the third round of voting in the Autumn. Biafrans’ recent attempts to establish their own independent nation could be written off by some as futile since Biafra was reabsorbed into Nigeria over 50 years ago, but their desperation to secede from Nigeria is only increasing.

Why do Biafrans want independence
now?

According to Ekpa, the Biafran self- referendum is justified given the marginalization faced by many Biafransvliving in the south-eastern regions of Nigeria and the ineffectiveness of the
national government in solving this issue. This sentiment is backed by ORB International’s most recent public opinion polling in Nigeria.

Nigerians in the South-East and South-South regions are most likely to perceive the national government as ineffective, compared to
other regions.

The South-East and South-South regions were the location of the historic homeland of the lgbo people who formed the core of the secessionist Republic of Biafra and a high concentration of Biafrans continue to live in these regions.

Despite lgbos being the third largest ethnic group in Nigeria, there has yet to be an lgbo president since the end of the war in 1970, leading to a feeling of marginalization among the Igbo people.

Beyond ethnic marginalization, BRGIEchas cited increased threats of insecurity as a justification for the self- referendum. ORB data found that respondents in the South-East region are the most likely to feel unsafe in their
communities, compared to all respondents. While insecurity issues like kidnapping, killings, and the destruction of property, have plagued the South-Eastern region of Nigeria for years, the level of violence caused by militants and terrorists continues to increase, the national government has been unable to curb the increasing violence in the region. This increasing threat of violence, coupled with the ethnic marginalization of the lgbo people living in this region, could be a current trigger for why Biafrans want to
secede from Nigeria.

Response of the National Government

While the Nigerian national governmenthas not commented on the Biafran self- referendum, in January 2024 Abuja reaffirmed its opposition to any “separatist activities” while citing the One-China policy. The policy refers to China’s position that there is only onecChinese government, wherein Taiwan is a province of China rather than a separate country and government”.

Although the government did not link its opposition to Taiwanese separatist movements with the Biafran self- referendum, several Nigerian social media users discussed the link between the two separatist movements. Based on this, it is unlikely the Nigerian government will support the results of the self-referendum and subsequent Restoration of the Independent State of Biafra. Given this data, it is unclear
whether the Nigerian government’s response to the results of the self-referendum will be through political statements or escalate to a military confrontation. Therefore, it will be important to key an eye on Biafra in coming months.

Protests: You’re not responsible for Biafrans non-participation- Simon Ekpa slams Southeast governors, Umahi

0

The Prime Minister of Biafra Republic Government In-Exile has told southeast governors and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi that they are not responsible for the decision of Biafrans to shun the hunger protest.

Ekpa disclosed this in a statement on Thursday through his X handle.

This comes as Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State, Christian Soludo of Anambra State, Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Umahi were seen in a viral video taking responsibility for why Biafrans shun the protests.

However, Ekpa urged Biafrans to disregard Mba, Soludo, Uzodinma and Umahi over their claims of southeast non-participation in the protests.

He noted that Biafran’s decision not to join the protest was because of their love for the actualization of Biafra’s Liberation from Nigeria.

Contrary to the Governors and Minister’s claim, Ekpa said it is BRGIE that called for the non-participation of Biafrans in the protests and it recorded 100 percent compliance in the region.

He reiterated the plan to lock down Nigerian government institutions in the region for a month with 100 percent compliance over Biafra Liberation and continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“We call on Biafrans to disregard the claims of the politically corrupt leaders representing Nigeria within Biafra territory.

“The nationwide protest has shown that Biafrans rejected Nigeria.

“Insinuating that they were responsible for Biafran citizens not participating in a civil movement currently ongoing in Nigeria tagged #endbadgovernance protest, which is outside the Biafra territory.

“It is laughable that the likes of Soludo, Mba, Uzodinma and David Umahi were seen in a video, attempting to appear relevant, spreading propaganda through the media.

“The nonparticipation of Biafrans is evidence that the Biafra government has succeeded in achieving delegitimizing within Biafra territory.

“Their responsibility has always been to maintain the continuous subjugation of Biafrans through their actions, activities and utterances in exchange for fame and relevancy.

“Biafrans should disregard them and their false notion but closely monitor as they continue to expose themselves and their various tactics of manipulation and deception.

“The Biafra Government called for no Nigeria protest within Biafra territory and it recorded 100% compliance, not the illegitimate corrupt Nigeria representatives that have been served with a vote of no confidence.

“The Biafran Government will continue its ceaseless efforts towards the actualization of Biafra Independence.

“We will lock down the entire Nigeria government institutions for one month and you will see compliance from these corrupt politicians too”, he said.

Recall the hunger protests which started last week Thursday in many states in Nigeria and are expected to end on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Simon Ekpa alleges assassination attempts

0

The leader of the Biafra Government In-Exile, Simon Ekpa has alleged an assassination attempt by the Nigerian government.

Ekpa disclosed this in a statement through his official X handle on Tuesday.

He claimed that a suicide bomber had been allegedly deployed from Abuja and headed for Finland.

He further alleged this was the fifth attempt to take his life amid the struggle for Biafra Liberation in recent times.

Ekpa said he is monitoring the situation and assured that Biafra Independence would triumph over any attempt.

“Nigeria State sending suicide bombers to Finland to attack Simon Ekpa as their last option and they just departed from Abuja airport, this is just to inform them that we are monitoring them even from the time they dropped them at the Abuja airport, to their next destination.

“We are waiting for you suicide bomber at the port of entry. Their Finland contact knows already he is in the pot of soup.

“I remain committed to Biafra Independence, this is your 5th attempt, you are now sending terrorists to Europe.

“If you know this man called Simon Ekpa, you will stop sleeping. Let me leave it here. It is not yet time for that”, he said.

Ekpa-led Biafra Govt lists four steps to Biafra Independence

0

The Prime of Biafra Government In-Exile, Simon Ekpa has reeled out four steps to the actualization of Biafra Independence.

Ekpa disclosed this on Tuesday through his official X account.

He narrated the step-by-step gains recorded so far toward the achievement of Biafra Liberation.

According to him, the first stage has been achieved by the Biafra government BRGIE despite campaigns of calumny by those who do not want Biafra to succeed.

He noted that the second stage of Biafra’s Independence through its declaration and defense has been successful 60 percent.

Ekpa stressed that the third stage which is the recognition of Biafra as an independent state is done by 50 percent.

NCC charges MTN, Glo, other telcos on Tariffs Transparency

0

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive to telecommunications operators to simplify their tariff plans, bundles, and promotional activities.

This move aims to provide clear, easy-to-understand, and accurate information about the cost of voice, short messaging service (SMS) and data services to subscribers.

The directive, titled “Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector,” was issued on July 29, 2024. It mandates Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to publish a comprehensive table showing the features of their tariff plans and bundle offers.

The table should contain all necessary information for subscribers to make informed decisions, including details on add-ons, their prices, how consumers can opt-in or out, terms and conditions for renewal, and rollover policies.

The guideline is the outcome of consultations with industry stakeholders, including MNOs and Consumer Focus Groups, and extensive data analysis on consumer preferences and expectations.

The objectives of the simplification guidelines are to reduce the complexity of tariff plans and bundles, ensure transparency and fairness of promotional elements of tariff plans, protect consumers’ interests by providing clear and understandable tariff information so that they make informed decisions, and promote fair competition among licensees by standardising tariff structures.

Service providers are also required to display all relevant information about their tariffs, such as the name of the plan, price, validity period, price-per-second for on or off-network and international calls, expected data speeds, and fair usage policies.

“Operators can maintain existing bonus-led tariff plans till 31st December 2024, within which period operators are expected to educate and migrate all subscribers to the simplified tariff plans,” the directive stated.

The guidelines further mandate that MNOs must communicate tariffs to subscribers in “clear language and a user-friendly format,” with full disclosure of a subscriber’s tariff plan via Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD).

Additionally, “operators must offer stand-alone data bundles at fair prices to avoid tying consumers with products they do not need; bonuses on promotions must be stated in actual value; access fees and asymmetric fee structures must be eliminated,” among other conditions.

The NCC emphasised that while complying with these guidelines, operators must also meet the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) standards set out in the Quality of Service (QoS) Regulations.

We didn’t approve telecom tariff increase-NCC

0
EVC NCC, Aminu Maida

The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has clarified that it has not approved any increases in telecom tariffs, contrary to recent misleading reports.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman/CEO of the NCC, issued a statement on his verified X account on Saturday addressing the false information circulating within the telecom sector.

He described the report as “fake news” and stressed that there have been no new tariff hikes for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) or any increases in telecom services for consumers.

DAILY POST gathered that the confusion results from a document, titled, “Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector,” recently posted on the NCC’s website.

An online news had claimed that the NCC approved tariff increases for MTN, Airtel, Glo, and other telecom companies, affecting voice, SMS, data, and other services, adding the development had resulted in higher costs for Nigerians.

Ekpa-led Biafra Govt threatens to shutdown Nigerian govt offices in the southeast over Nnamdi Kanu’s release

0

The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile has threatened that it will shut down offices of the Nigerian government in the southeast, Biafra land.

The Prime Minister of Biafra Government (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa disclosed this in a statement through its official X handle on Saturday.

This is as BRGIE demanded the demilitarisation of the region, acceptance of the Biafra Referendum and the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

BRGIE noted that traders, markets, businesses, banks and hospitals are exempted from the shutdown.

“The Biafra government is ready to close down all Nigeria government houses and offices within Biafra territory for a month.
The details of the shutdown will be announced during the next State of the Union address.

“Our demands are as follows: Withdrawal of all Nigeria’s security forces from all Biafra land;

“Accept the Biafra Self Referendum, which has recorded over 49million votes.

“Release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra political prisoners.

“The lockdown does not apply to traders, markets, businesses, Banks and hospitals”, BRGIE stated.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that part of the demand of the ongoing protests in Nigeria tagged, #Endbadgovernance was the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

In 2021, Kanu was arrested and have been detained by the Nigerian government despite a heightened call by Nigerian lawmakers and political leaders for his release.

Biafrans have spoken in one voice – Simon Ekpa reacts as Southeast Shun Hunger protest

0

The  Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile and the Biafra de facto government in the homeland Simon Ekpa has reacted to the low turnout of protesters in the Southeast.

Newssphere reports that markets, stores and shops in many parts of the Southeast were opened on Thursday while protests over hunger and economic hardship were going on in other parts of the country.

Our correspondent gathered that commercial activities in Nnewi, and Onitsha the commercial city of Anambra State were going smoothly despite the tension across Nigeria.

Reacting, Ekpa in a post on his official X handle on Thursday attributed the situation in South-East to Biafran Referendum, saying that citizens of the region have again spoken in one voice.

He demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader Indigenous People of Biafra, the militarization of Biafra land and acceptance of the Biafra Referendum.

According to the secessionist, over “49 million Biafrans have voted for the Biafra self referendum”.

He wrote, “Once again, Biafrans has spoken in one voice. What other evidence do you need to know that Biafrans has rejected Nigeria?

“While the regions that believe in Nigeria are protesting to end bad governance, Biafra has once again demonstrated that they are not part of Nigeria and cannot protest to end bad governance in Nigeria.

“While those who believe in one Nigeria are protesting, Biafrans have disassociated themselves, meaning that they have accepted the Biafra Government as the only legitimate government they are loyal to”.

Earlier, Ekpa had ordered that no Biafra should join the protest to the hardship protest.
