1. Former Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna has said President Bola Tinubu will be at best place third in the 2027 presidential elections. Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, el-Rufai said there are chances that the election would not end on first ballot, but Tinubu would not stand a chance in the runoff.
2. The All Progressives Congress, APC has won 20 of the 23 local government areas in Saturday’s Chairmanship and Councillorship elections. The ruling party in the State, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the other hand won only three LGAs in the poll conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
3. A former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, is dead, Daily Trust has learnt. He was said to have passed away at Cedar Crest Hospital, Abuja, in the early hours of Sunday.
4. A boat accident has left at least 15 people dead and three others missing in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, after a group of villagers attempted to flee their communities amid a bandit attack. The tragic incident occurred as residents from Danmaga, Tungar Maigunya, Nasarawar Kifi tried to cross a river using a single canoe in a desperate bid to escape advancing gunmen.
5. Residents of Kasuwan-Garba town in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State at weekend lynched and set a woman ablaze over an alleged blasphemous remark against Prophet Muhammad. The woman, identified as Amaye, a food vendor, was said to have made the alleged blasphemous remarks at her restaurant after a customer jokingly expressed interest in marrying her, citing the tradition of the Prophet.
6. Dangote Group on Sunday announced the death of Big Brother Naija’s season 7 Phyna’s sister, Ruth Otabar, who was injured in a road accident involving one of its trucks in Auchi. It was disclosed in a statement signed by Dangote’s management on Sunday via X, expressing their grief for the deceased.
