Anxiety over Akpabio’s whereabouts

0

There have been concerns over the sudden disappearance of the President of Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio from the public amid rumours of ill health.

Nigerian News Sphere had reported that Akpabio was recently alleged to be hospitalized in the United Kingdom.

Although the report could not be verified immediately, the lawmaker’s conspicuous absence from key public events have triggered more speculations about his alleged ill health.

A source, who spoke with Nigerian News Sphere on condition of anonymity, alleged that the lawmaker has been away from Nigeria.

According to him, Akpabio has been in London over the past few weeks.

“We have been hearing all manners of reports. Some said he went for a checkup, others said he has been hospitalized.

“There is nothing surprising. Nigerian politicians are like that. They don’t disclose when they have issues. This is also one of the problems we have as a country.

“In the United States, the health status of the president is always made public. There is no shame in that.

“Public office holders are also human beings that can fall sick once in a while but because of their selfishness in Nigeria in case some will say they are not fit for the office, they won’t disclose the health status”, the source said.

Following the long-term injury layoff for Levi Colwill, Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca has said that he is looking for a new centre-back.

Earlier reports had suggested that Chelsea won’t bother returning to the transfer market in search of Colwill’s replacement.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had reported that Chelsea have not activated any immediate ‘emergency plan’ to sign a new centre back.

This is after it was confirmed on Thursday that Colwill will miss most of the 2025/26 season after he sustained an ACL injury.

The England defender has undergone surgery after the scans confirmed the situation.

The 22-year-old was injured after he returned for pre-season at the start of this week, sustaining the injury in training.

Speaking on Friday as the Blues put finishing touches on their preseason tour, Maresca said as quoted by Romano, “It’s a priority for me to get a new centre back. We will see if we go for it.”
