The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned Nigerians against consuming Indomie Noodles (Vegetable Flavor), declaring the product unsafe and directing an immediate nationwide recall following an international safety alert.
In Public Alert No. 041/2025 issued on Friday, NAFDAC said France’s consumer protection agency, Rappel Conso, initiated a recall of the product after laboratory tests detected undeclared allergens.
According to the alert, the vegetable-flavored noodles were found to contain milk and eggs that were not listed on the product label, a lapse the agency said could pose serious health risks to consumers with allergies or food intolerances.
NAFDAC explained that exposure to such undeclared allergens could trigger severe allergic reactions, prompting the precautionary decision to warn the public and order a withdrawal of the product.
The recall affects all batches of the noodles with a best-before date of February 6, 2026. However, the agency noted that the alert did not specify the country where the product was manufactured.
While acknowledging that the chances of the affected noodles entering Nigeria are low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle imports, NAFDAC warned that illegal importation through personal travel or online shopping platforms cannot be ruled out.
To prevent circulation of the product, the agency has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and seize any affected packs found in markets, warehouses, or distribution points nationwide.
NAFDAC also urged consumers, retailers, and wholesalers to remain vigilant across the supply chain. Members of the public who already have the implicated Indomie Vegetable Flavor noodles have been advised to dispose of them immediately and refrain from consumption.
The agency encouraged Nigerians to report any sightings of the product to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free line, 0800-162-3322, and to report any adverse health effects through its official e-reporting platforms.
The alert has once again highlighted concerns around food safety and the need for strict regulatory oversight, particularly for widely consumed products such as instant noodles.
