Insecurity: It’s insensitive, ill-timed – Group blasts APC over 2027 campaign rally in Ebonyi

The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria Group has strongly condemned the recent political rally held in Ebonyi State by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the party’s National Chairman and other top-ranking officials, describing the gathering as insensitive, ill-timed, and completely disconnected from the harsh realities facing millions of Nigerians.

In a statement issued on behalf of the group, frontline member, Mr. Chike Uba, said it was shocking that at a time when the nation is battling worsening insecurity, rampant kidnappings, economic hardship, and the collapse of critical infrastructure, senior APC leaders have chosen to focus their energy on political campaigns for the 2027 elections.

According to him, the country is currently bleeding, with innocent citizens being killed across several parts of the federation while many families continue to endure the trauma of having their loved ones held captive by kidnappers.

“Nigeria is in pain. Citizens are being killed almost daily. Communities are under siege. Farmers cannot safely access their farmlands. Businesses are struggling. Families are living in fear. Yet, the APC leadership has chosen this moment to embark on a political carnival for 2027. It is insensitive, irresponsible, and deeply disappointing.”

Mr. Uba noted that the South-East, where the rally was held, continues to suffer from severe infrastructure deficits, particularly poor federal road networks that have crippled economic activities and endangered lives.

“The people of the South-East do not need campaign speeches for 2027. They need functional roads. They need security. They need investments. They need policies that improve their lives. Instead of discussing solutions to the infrastructural decay confronting the region, APC leaders are already campaigning for an election that is still far away.”

He further expressed disappointment with the participation of the APC National Chairman, arguing that his presence at the rally raised serious questions about the priorities of the ruling party.

“What is particularly disturbing is that the APC National Chairman comes from Plateau State, a state that has witnessed repeated attacks, killings, displacement of communities, and immense human suffering. One would have expected him to devote his energy and influence towards mobilizing national action to address the security crisis affecting his people and other Nigerians.”

“Rather than leading conversations on how to stop the killings, rescue kidnapped citizens, rebuild affected communities, and restore confidence in government, he has joined the campaign train. This is shameful and completely out of touch with the mood of the nation.”

The group maintained that leadership demands empathy, responsibility, and responsiveness to the needs of citizens, not premature political celebrations and endless electioneering.

“There will be a time for politics and campaigns. Today is not that time. Today, the priority must be securing lives, rescuing those in captivity, rebuilding damaged infrastructure, creating jobs, and restoring hope to Nigerians.”

The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria Group therefore called on the APC leadership to immediately abandon what it described as “premature 2027 politicking” and concentrate on addressing the pressing challenges confronting the nation.

“History will not judge political leaders by the number of rallies they attended but by how they responded when their people were in distress. The APC must stop campaigning andstart governing.”

Mr. Uba further stated that the Peoples Democratic Party remains committed to offering the people of Ebonyi State a credible alternative and a pathway to better governance. He argued that years of poor policy choices and misplaced priorities have left many residents grappling with economic hardship, inadequate infrastructure, and declining public confidence in government.

According to him, the PDP is already engaging stakeholders across the state with a view to restoring purposeful leadership, accelerating development, and “removing Ebonyi from the darkness and stagnation that the current administration has imposed on the state.”

He expressed confidence that the people of Ebonyi would, at the appropriate time, choose a government that places their welfare, security, and prosperity above political showmanship.

This wording keeps the criticism firmly as a political opinion while maintaining a press-statement tone.
