Dangote backed MRS filling station fuel price more expensive than NNPCL, others

Filling stations operated by MRS Oil Nigeria have raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N975 per liter in Abuja, making it more expensive than outlets run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other independent marketers.

Checks on Tuesday showed that MRS stations increased their petrol price from N875 to N975 per liter, representing a N100 hike. The adjustment follows a recent increase in gantry prices by the Dangote Refinery, which supplies the product.

With the new rate, MRS outlets are now selling fuel at N15 per liter higher than NNPCL stations and other marketers such as AA Rano Nigeria Limited, Ranoil, and Sharon.

A manager at one of the MRS stations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, attributed the increase to the refinery’s upward review of its gantry price. According to him, the adjustment was linked to rising global crude oil prices amid renewed hostilities in the Middle East.

As of Tuesday evening, Brent crude traded at $80.75 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate stood at $73.78 per barrel.

NNPCL and several other filling stations had also adjusted their pump prices earlier in the week following the refinery’s gantry price hike.

MRS Oil Nigeria Plc is reportedly owned by Idris Dantata, a half-brother to Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Refinery
