The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam, has resigned from his position.
The development was announced on Friday in a statement by Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
The resignation follows recent moves by the Kano State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor.
Earlier in the week, a Federal High Court in Kano declined Abdussalam’s request to stop the impeachment process.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano State, and the entire nation that the Deputy Governor of Kano State has tendered his resignation from office,” the statement read.
It added that the decision, though difficult, was taken in the overall interest of the people and to ensure stability in the governance of the state.
