The draw for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase has been concluded, setting up a series of high-profile clashes in the round of 16 and the knockout play-offs.
One of the standout ties will see Benfica face Real Madrid. Both sides met on the final matchday of the league phase, where José Mourinho’s team secured a 4–2 victory in Portugal. That result allowed Benfica to sneak into the play-offs while denying Madrid automatic qualification to the round of 16.
Under the competition format, teams were paired according to their final positions in the league phase. Clubs that finished between ninth and 16th were seeded, while those placed 17th to 24th were unseeded.
