We’re unshaken—Turaki-led PDP vows to appeal court ruling on Ibadan convention

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured its members that the party remains legally intact despite a judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan nullifying its National Convention held in the Oyo State capital.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

According to the statement, the court declined to grant an order of mandamus sought by the party, holding that doing so would amount to sitting on appeal over the decisions of courts of coordinate jurisdiction.

Reacting to the ruling, the Turaki-led PDP said it has directed its legal team to immediately file an appeal and take all necessary steps to advance its arguments and safeguard its position.

The leadership that emerged from the Ibadan National Convention maintained that it remains “legally intact and unshaken” as it awaits the outcome of proceedings at the appellate courts.

Ememobong urged party members to remain calm and steadfast, stressing that the judgment poses no threat to the party’s direction.

“Notwithstanding this judgment, our party remains firmly on course. We urge our members to stay resolute and committed. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” he said.

The party further reiterated that its Rebirth Movement remains on track.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the court nullified the opposition party’s convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Thursday’s court judgment was in favor of Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s camp of PDP.
