Many residents are feared dead, while others were abducted following an attack by suspected gunmen on the Okporojo community in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to local sources, the assailants stormed the community in the early hours, setting houses ablaze and shooting indiscriminately before fleeing with an unspecified number of residents.
Eyewitnesses said several people lost their lives during the attack, while others were taken away by the gunmen. Properties, including residential buildings, were also destroyed as fires spread through parts of the community.
A video circulating on social media showed burning houses and distressed residents appealing for urgent intervention from the Ebonyi State Government and security agencies.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ebonyi State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official statement on the incident.
