A Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the bail granted to the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, following his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar ordered the revocation of Sowore’s bail during proceedings on Tuesday after the defendant was absent despite being aware of the hearing date.
Counsel to the prosecution, Kehinde Akinlolu (SAN), informed the court that Sowore failed to attend the proceedings and urged the court to revoke his bail. He also alleged that the defendant had consistently taken steps that delayed the trial.
In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that although Sowore had written to the court seeking an adjournment, the letter did not provide any reason for the request.
Consequently, the court revoked the defendant’s bail and adjourned the matter until June 22 for further hearing.
