The southwest leadership of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) on Monday staged a protest in Lagos State over the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
The protesters gathered in the early hours around the Maryland area of Lagos, chanting slogans and condemning what they described as continued foreign aggression against Iran. They called for global condemnation of American involvement in the affairs of sovereign nations.
The demonstration reportedly created tension in the area, with residents expressing concern over possible unrest.
Speaking to Leadership Newspaper, the South-West Coordinator of IMN, Muftau Zakariya, said the protest was aimed at voicing opposition to what he termed persistent invasions of independent nations under the administration of Donald Trump.
Zakariya referenced alleged interventions in Venezuela, including claims of interference in the country’s leadership and energy infrastructure. He also linked rising tensions in Kwara State to what he described as US involvement in the region.
“I told you that nothing good comes from US intervention. Their interest lies mainly in economic gains without regard for the consequences,” he said.
Earlier reports indicated that similar protests had erupted in Niger Northern Nigeria following news of Khamenei’s death.
