Atletico Madrid stunned FC Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash.
Diego Simeone’s side arrived at the Camp Nou seeking revenge for their recent league defeat to the Catalan giants and delivered a disciplined performance to secure a crucial away win.
Barcelona started brightly and looked the more threatening side early on, but the game took a dramatic turn when Pau Cubarsí was shown a straight red card for a last-man challenge.
From the resulting free-kick, Julián Álvarez broke the deadlock to put Atletico ahead. The visitors capitalized on their numerical advantage in the second half, with Alexander Sørloth doubling their lead to hand Atletico a commanding edge heading into the return leg.
In the other quarter-final fixture, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 victory over Liverpool F.C. at the Parc des Princes.
Goals from Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in either half ensured PSG took a solid advantage into the second leg.
