Racism: Vinicius sends strong message to Barcelona’s Yamal

Vinícius Júnior has expressed support for Lamine Yamal following the young winger’s reaction to racist chants during an international friendly.

Yamal had voiced frustration after being targeted by fans during Spain vs. Egypt international friendly, which ended in a goalless draw.

Speaking on Monday ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, the Real Madrid star described racism as a persistent problem in football and society.

Vinicius Jr encouraged the FC Barcelona youngster to remain vocal and resilient in the face of abuse.

“It’s a complicated issue, and it happens a lot. I hope Lamine can continue this fight,” he said.

The Brazilian forward noted that while high-profile players may have influence and resources, many others facing racism lack such support. He stressed that discrimination exists globally, urging collective action to address it.

“We have money, but poor Black people have more difficulties than we do. I’m not saying countries like Spain, Germany, or Portugal are racist, but there are racists everywhere. If we fight together, hopefully people will stop suffering these things,” he added.

Vinicius Jr. has himself been repeatedly subjected to racist abuse in Spain and has been a prominent voice in the campaign against discrimination in football.
