The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following the circulation of a video showing him driving recklessly during a live broadcast that ended in a crash.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and drew widespread public outrage after the footage went viral.
Police said the influencer’s actions posed a serious danger to public safety and required immediate intervention to prevent further harm.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller’, following a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showing him driving recklessly and causing a road crash during a live-stream,” the statement said.
The command described the conduct as highly irresponsible, noting that it endangered not only the suspect but also other motorists and pedestrians.
Police further disclosed that the case file has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive investigation.
“The case is currently under investigation by the SCID. At the conclusion of the investigation, the outcome will be made public and the suspect will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also used the occasion to warn social media influencers and content creators against using digital platforms to promote illegal or hazardous behaviour.
He stressed that reckless and unlawful acts would attract firm legal consequences, reaffirming the command’s commitment to enforcing the law without bias and ensuring the safety of all road users.
