The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat to Egypt in a pre-2025 Africa Cup of Nations friendly played at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, handed opportunities to several players as he named a largely experimental lineup for the encounter.
The hosts took the lead in the 28th minute when Mahmoud Saber found the back of the net for the Pharaohs.
The Super Eagles responded before the break, with defender Chidozie Awaziem restoring parity late in the first half. Awaziem rose highest to head home Zaidu Sanusi’s free kick after Egypt failed to clear their lines.
However, Egypt regained the advantage shortly after the restart, as Mostafa Mohammed struck to seal the win for the North Africans.
The Super Eagles are expected to depart for Fez, Morocco, on Thursday as preparations continue ahead of the 2025 AFCON.
