Reacting to the reports in a post on her verified X account, Uchechi mocked the claim with laughing emojis, suggesting the story was false.
She wrote: “Good conscious evening, my blessed Biafrans. I have just learned that I filed for Divorce while my husband is in prison 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.”
The reaction follows media reports alleging that Uchechi had initiated divorce proceedings over claims of years of infidelity, financial neglect and interference from Kanu’s family members, which allegedly caused an irreparable breakdown of the marriage.
The reports further claimed that Uchechi, who married the IPOB leader in 2009, had endured years of emotional distress linked to Kanu’s alleged extramarital affairs.
According to the reports, Kanu was allegedly involved with a woman identified as Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu before his 2015 arrest. The reports also alleged that she initially believed Kanu was unmarried and later ended the relationship after discovering what she described as deception.
However, Uchechi’s public response did not address the specific allegations beyond dismissing the reported divorce claim.
Nnamdi Kanu is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after being convicted on terrorism-related charges stemming from his agitation for the secession of Biafra.
