The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of haze and sunshine across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, the agency said the northern region will experience predominantly sunny and hazy conditions throughout the forecast period.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted mainly sunny skies with patches of cloud, alongside the possibility of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states later in the day.
On Thursday, the agency said sunny and hazy conditions are expected to persist over the northern and central regions, while the south will record sunny skies with cloudy intervals. Morning thunderstorms with light rain are forecast over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely over Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.
NiMet further stated that on Friday, the northern region will experience sunny and hazy skies in the morning, with dust haze expected in the afternoon and evening. The central region is also expected to remain sunny and hazy throughout the day.
According to the agency, the southern region will have cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, while isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall may occur over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
NiMet warned that dust particles are currently in suspension over the North-Central region and advised residents to take necessary precautions, especially those with asthma or other respiratory conditions.
The agency also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective flight planning and operations.
