Biafra: Ekpa-led Biafra Govt lawyer, Levy demands removal of Nigeria’s Representative at AU Commission

0

Simon Ekpa-led Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, Jonathan Levy has demanded the removal of the Nigerian representative at the African Commission in Peoples and Human Rights(Africa Union’s organ), Acting Secretary-General Abiola Idowu-Ojo.

Levy was made known in a protest statement letter to the Commission seen by our correspondent on Tuesday.

This comes as the pro-Biafra agitator on Monday accused Idowu-Ojo of refusing to attend to BRGIE’s petition for Biafra self-rule amid the marginalization and human rights violation by the Nigerian government against Biafrans.

In a follow-up, BRGIE in a letter by its Attorney told the Commission to recuse the Executive Secretary, Idowu-Ojo on grounds she’s biased and unjust towards the plight of Biafra Liberation.

“Before the Commission could meet and consider the BRGIE communication, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, a Nigerian citizen and lawyer educated in Nigeria, summarily dismissed the communication on grounds it did not state a case or contain any facts. The procedural rules of the ACHPR that mandate the Executive Secretary explain her position and allow Biafra to amend the communication were ignored.  Two further requests for instructions from Biafra to the ACHPR Secretariat went unanswered.

“BRGIE has requested the ACHPR Commissioner to recuse the Executive Secretary on grounds that a Nigerian citizen and product of the biased Nigerian educational system including its elite universities, cannot comprehend the plight of Biafra or its people as they have been instructed by the earliest age, that Biafra is never to be mentioned or acknowledged.

“The BRGIE implores that the African Union does not follow the disastrous anti-Biafra position of its predecessor the OAU which misused its position to oppose Biafran independence. The genocide of 1967-1970 must never be repeated. The BRGIE has attempted to place the matter of human rights and the BiaSelf-Referendumndum before the African Union. If the African Union refuses to take up the challenge, that organization must be relegated to the garbage pail of history as a relic of neo-colonialism.  Biafra stands firm and steadfast and as sure as its rising sun emblem, Biafra will be the beacon for a new Africa free of neocolonialism where every man, woman, and child can live their lives without fear government-sponsored marauders and the voracious kleptocracies which enslave Africans while selling our dearly won resources cheap to the former colonial masters”, BRGIE’s lawyer, Levy stated.

Data breach: NDPC orders full-scale investigation on Optasia owners of Nairtime

0

National Data Protection Commission, National Commissioner Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the data processing activities of Optasia which operates in Nigeria as Nairtime Nigeria Ltd.

This was contained in a statement by the Commission’s Head, Babatunde Bamigboye on Monday.

This investigation was triggered by a pattern of suspected non-compliant data processing which was discovered during routine regulatory oversight of data controllers and data processors of major importance.

The Commission notes with grave concern that Optasia deploys privacy invading technologies to process personal data for the purposes of marketing, credit scoring and other financial solutions.

The investigation of credit scoring activities covers the way financial institutions, telecommunication companies, insurance companies among others process personal data of citizens for various purposes.

The National Commissioner enjoined data controllers and data processors of major importance who rely on third parties as mediums through which the personal data of the Nigerian populace may be processed to ensure that such third parties are duly registered with the Commission.

“This measure will ensure accountability, strengthen data security architecture and protect Nigeria’s data sovereignty”, the statement reads.

Biafra: How Nigerian representative at AU’s commission violated rules of procedure, blocked our petition- Ekpa

Biafra: How Nigerian representative at AU’s commission violated rules of procedure, blocked our petition- Ekpa

The Prime Minister of Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, Simon Ekpa has allegedly that its petition on Biafra’s jdeclaration for self-rule to the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, an organ of Africa Union was blocked unjustly by the Commission’s Acting Secretary-General, Abiola Idowu-Ojo and Nigeria representative.

Ekpa made this known in a statement through his official X account on Monday.

According to him despite the successful 23rd of May 2024 and the response received on the 19th of June, however, the Commission had allegedly trashed its petition for Biafra Liberation amid rights abuses by the Nigerian government on Biafrans.

Ekpa stressed that the reason given for not acting on the BRGIE petition was unfair and the commission had defaulted on its own rules.

He raised the rm that the development may escalate tension in the region as impunity and injustices strive.

“The Biafra Government wants to officially inform the Biafra people and the world that the Nigeria representative, Abiola Idowu-Ojo at the African Court has trashed the filing of the Biafra Government.

“This development will escalate the tension in the region, it is corruption and impunity taken to the highest level at the AU by the Nigeria state appointee.

We Successfully filed the communication on the 23rd of May 2024 and on the 19th of June, we received a response that the communication would not be seized, the reason being the failure to comply with rule 115(2)(d) of the 2020 rules of procedure.
When you check the rules of procedure, failure to comply with rule 115(2)(d) subsequently requires rule 115(4) to be fulfilled and not the response we got”.

This is as Ekpa demanded a further explanation on why the BRGIE petition was not attended to by the Commission.

“Further investigation reveals that the Secretary to the Commission is a Nigerian Abiola Idowu-Ojo and has violated the rules of procedure which she amended according to the Center for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria.

“We have further demanded an explanation as to how the procedure was not followed according to the rules and the commission never responded. We are also taking the matter up but we decided that the public must become aware of the corruption by the Nigerian representative”, he stated.

The development comes as the Ekpa-led BRGIE announced the December 2, 2024, Biafra liberation declaration after years of neglect.

This comes as the Nigerian government on several occasions hinted at plans to extradite Ekpa from Finland.

NCC collaborates with stakeholders on use of 6GHz for Wi-Fi, MT

0

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC is collaborating with stakeholders towards the use of the 6GHz for Wi-Fi – 6 and International Mobile Telecommunications  (MT).

The NCC, as part of its mandate to enhance the quality of telecommunication in Nigeria, said it has set out to strategize on relevant policies.

The Executive Vice Chairman, EVC, of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, represented by the represented by the Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, NCC, Engr. Abraham Oshadami disclosed this while delivering his keynote speech at the Annual Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum on Emerging Technologies held in Lagos on Thursday.

The EVC noted that the sector has experienced an all-round advancement in development.

He pointed out that in line with global best practices, the actions of the commission must be guided by decisions that take into cognizance the inputs from all stakeholders in the industry.

“To accomplish our objectives in driving our strategic goals, the Commission identified some key factors, which include people, collaboration data, compliance, and Digitalization.

“In line with one of the key factors on collaboration as outlined in our focus areas and the Commission’s traditionally institutionalized policy of participatory regulation and the practice of industry-wide consultations in conducting its regulatory functions, we are here again to elicit your comments and inputs on the use of the 6GHz for Wi-Fi – 6 and International Mobile Telecommunications (MT).

“The 6GHz band, spanning from 5925 MHz to 7125 MHz, offers a substantial increase in available spectrum, which is crucial for supporting the growing demand for high-speed internet and advanced applications Wi-Fi plays a crucial role in the distribution of fixed broadband connectivity in homes, offices, and various other environments.

“The vast majority of home internet traffic is connected to the end-user through Wi-Fi. In enterprise settings, Wi-Fi is essential for handling large amounts of data and simultaneously connecting large numbers of devices with improved reliability, higher data throughput, and lower latencies.

“However, the 5GHz and 2.4GHz that are being used for Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 5) at the moment are becoming overwhelmed due to an increase in demand for capacity. It is, therefore, imperative to identify other frequency bands to complement the 5GHz and 2.4GHz.

“The recently concluded 2023 World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-23) allocated the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi and IMT applications with different recommendations on how to use the band.

“This was the outcome of a long study cycle process leading to the decision at the WRC-2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.”

Why Nigerians must have a verifiable identity- CEO Barnksforte, Bankole

0

The chief executive officer of Barnksforte, Adedayo Bankole, has urged Nigerians to have a verifiable identity as an antidote against criminals and identity thefts.

Bankole made this known on Monday in an interview during National Identity Day organized by the National Identity Management Commission.

This is as Bankole warned Nigerians to be careful about how they manage their data.

He said that there are criminal elements out there looking for the tiniest opportunity to steal those data and use them for criminal purposes.

He noted that Cybercrime is a global trend but added that works are underway to “use the best industry standard in terms of transmission in data waves. When you’re transmitting and processing. There’s a data protection law that allows us to make sure that there are protocols that are used in terms of how you transmit data and how you prepare data. That is being put in place.

“More scrutiny and more technology is being deployed to make sure that a lot of data is being protected. So if you look into the modification systems, you will find out that we make sure that we verify the ownership of the data in order not to allow someone else to use your data.

“To be honest with you, it’s a lot of effort. The criminals are out there. Criminals want to use your data to do a lot of things and we are working so hard to make sure we put the protection in place.”

Earlier, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had during the event told Nigerians that their unique proof of identity emphasizes their basic human right to protection, sustenance and support as a recognized member of society wherever they are.

Tinubu was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Gorge Akume

Other stakeholders including telecommunications companies took their turns to reiterate the need for subscribers to have verifiable identity by linking their National Identity and Subscribers Identity Module.
