1. Nigeria’s three tiers of government, Federal, State and Local governments shared N1.818 trillion revenue for June from the Federation Account and Allocation Committee.

 

 

2. Half of the current 36 state governors -18 – are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the anti-graft agency’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Olukoyede spoke during a sensitization programme for movie producers, musicians and bureau de change operators, in Lagos.

 

3. The African Democratic Congress has described the recent appointment of IBB’s son and other northerners by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “desperate attempt to buy back the trust that he has squandering over a year, particularly in Northern Nigeria.” In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC dismissed the appointments as “too little, too late,”

 

4. The Kaduna State Police Command has stopped a planned political rally by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, which was scheduled to hold in honour of his birthday.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, the Command said that the rally could be infiltrated by criminal elements intending to cause violence and disrupt public order.

 

5. The Plateau State Government has demanded the withdrawal of military personnel from flashpoints, calling for deployment of mobile police personnel in the area. This follows recent attacks in villages in Riyom Local Government Area, where 27 persons were killed.

 

 

Naira records appreciation across official black markets

The naira has appreciated against the dollar across official and parallel foreign exchange markets to end the week on a good note after days of depreciation.

Central Bank of Nigeria exchange rate data showed that the naira strengthened slightly to N1,532.34 on Friday from N1,533.11 traded on Thursday.

This showed that the naira at the official market recorded a marginal gain of N0.77 to the dollar on a day-to-day basis.

Similarly, at the black market, the naira firmed up to N1,535 per dollar on Friday.

The uptrend comes after two days of consecutive depreciation of the naira at the offichttps://dailypost.ng/2025/07/18/naira-continues-depreciation-against-dollar-at-official-foreign-exchange-market/ial market, but the currency had remained stable at the parallel market.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the gap between the official and black markets has closed at the currency market.

Reacting, a presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said the Naira harmonisation has been achieved under the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“Harmonisation of exchange rate achieved. Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan. It is real,” he wrote on his X Friday.

2. The Gombe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the driver of an unidentified vehicle that knocked down a serving officer, Clement Yunana, in a hit-and-run incident. According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening along Bauchi Road, opposite the Matrix Fueling Station in Tumfure, Akko Local Government Area of the state.

3. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has concluded plans to arraign the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Sani Malumfashi, over an alleged N1.02bn money laundering scheme. Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a strong warning to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cautioning him against entering the state without prior notification and approval. Governor Okpebholo’s warning marks the second time Obi has been cautioned by an All Progressives Congress, APC-led state over visits, including those reportedly for humanitarian purposes.

5. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, the son of the former military President, as chairman of the revamped Bank of Agriculture, BOA. President Tinubu approved the appointment and those of seven other Chairmen and Heads of government agencies.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said that the club’s new signing Noni Madueke will improve the Gunners’ squad.

Recall that Arsenal officially signed the England international from Chelsea on Friday after the Club World Cup.

Madueke joined the Premier League North London club on a long-term contract.

The 23-year-old started his youth career at Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur before he moved to the Netherlands, joining PSV Eindhoven in 2018.

“Noni joins our group with familiar England teammates and other players he knows. He will be made to feel at home straight away,” Arteta told Arsenal’s website.

“His arrival will really improve our squad – we’re all thrilled to have him here. From all of us, welcome Noni and welcome to your family.”

The power rankings for the 2025 Ballon d’Or is out after this year’s Club World Cup.

According to TNT Sports, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is ranked number one in the list.

The Spain international, however, was not at the Club World Cup, as LaLiga were represented by only two teams – Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

Behind Yamal is Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Vitinha, who won the Nations League with Portugal.

The top five is completed by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who scored a brace in the Club World Cup final, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona’s Raphinha.

EPL: He can’t finish – Parlour, Brazil advise Man Utd on signing Chelsea striker

Former footballers, Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil have advised Manchester United against signing Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson has been linked with a move to Man United following Chelsea’s decision to sign Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

However, Parlour believes the Senegalese wouldn’t get anywhere near the top category of strikers, while Brazil insisted that the former Villarreal star can’t finish in front of goal.

“The problem you’ve is the lack of number nines and the price goes up,” Parlour told talkSPORT.

“But with some of the strikers Man United have had over the years, I don’t think he [Jackson] would get anywhere near the top category.”

On his part, Brazil added, “He can’t finish. Well he can finish but he needs a lot of chances to score.

“And I would say he’d get more chances but Chelsea are a better side than Man United so I don’t see it working. You never know and I wish him well but I don’t see it working.”

BREAKING: Dele Memodu dumps PDP for ADC

Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He disclosed it in a resignation letter to the party chairman.

According to him, the once-prominent opposition party, “a carcas,” is now hijacked by anti-democratic interests.

In a strongly worded resignation letter, Momodu cited the party’s internal collapse as his reason for leaving.

“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight,” Momodu stated.

The former presidential aspirant added that it was “honourable to abandon the carcas of the party” and instead support a new political movement.

“The majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he wrote.

His resignation comes after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar officially announced his resignation from PDP on Wednesday.
