BREAKING: ‘Don’t ask me why, I’m leaving’- Guardiola confirms Manchester City exit after decade

0

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has officially confirmed he will leave the Premier League champions at the end of his tenure.

The Spaniard announced his decision in a statement on Friday, bringing an end to a trophy-laden era at the Etihad Stadium.

“And what a time we have had together,” Guardiola said.

“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving.

“There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.”

Guardiola will depart Manchester City after spending 10 years at the club, despite still having one year remaining on his current contract.

The 55-year-old bows out after another successful season in which City secured a domestic cup double. However, they narrowly missed out on the Premier League title following a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

Since arriving at City in 2016, Guardiola transformed the club into one of Europe’s dominant forces, winning 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has sealed the Abuja offices of real estate firms, Ochacho Real Estate and TI’Bilon Construction and Facility Management Company, over alleged non-compliance and consumer exploitation.

The commission disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday.

According to the FCCPC, the enforcement action was aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring regulatory compliance within the real estate sector.

The statement read: “FCCPC Seals Offices of Ochacho Real Estate and TI’Bilon Construction in Abuja Over Non-Compliance and Consumer Exploitation.

“In a decisive move to protect consumers and enforce regulatory compliance, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) today sealed the business premises of two prominent real estate developers in the Federal Capital Territory, Ochacho Real Estate and TI’Bilon Construction and Facility Management Company.

“The enforcement action follows the persistent refusal of both companies to comply with official compliance notices previously issued by the Commission.

“The notices required the developers to hand over housing units to consumers who had fully paid for their properties but were left stranded without their homes.

“The sealed offices will remain shut indefinitely until both organizations fully fulfill their outstanding obligations to the affected consumers.

“The Commission’s action was taken pursuant to Section 150(4) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA), 2018, which empowers the FCCPC to take strict regulatory action against non-compliant entities.”

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson underfire over N25,000 menstrual care

0

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson Okojie has come under heavy criticism on social media after being unveiled as a brand ambassador for Girls Tag, a menstrual care brand reportedly selling for N25,000.

Girls Tag, described as an all-in-one period care pack for girls aged nine and above, recently launched with Mercy Johnson and her daughter, Purity Okojie, as ambassadors. Actress Regina Daniels was later announced as another face of the brand.

However, the product’s price has triggered widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians describing it as insensitive and unrealistic amid rising economic hardship and the growing struggle among women and girls to afford basic sanitary products.

Reacting to the controversy, an X user, Lai, defended the actress and the company, arguing that the product was not targeted at average Nigerians.

“Not everyone is a philanthropist. Nigeria’s problems are not everybody’s problem. She knows who her customers are. This is business,” the user wrote.

Another user, Ms. Jorji, slammed the actress, saying, “Mercy Johnson, you are an embarrassment to women. In a country where women are struggling to afford sanitary pads, you want to charge N25k for sanitary pads.”

A user identified as A Tall Edo Girl mocked the product’s target market, writing, “The target audience had to be baddies.”

Rebekah also criticized the pricing, saying sanitary products should not be treated as luxury items.

“Nigeria is a poor country. Elitism should never extend to the basic rights and dignity of girls and women. How many Nigerians can realistically afford N25k monthly for a basic necessity?” she asked.

Another critic, Ara, faulted those defending the brand, insisting sanitary pads should be affordable and accessible to all women.

“The way some of you defend celebrities is annoying. In a country where sanitary pads are meant to be free, someone is selling them for N25k, and people are saying the packaging is worth it,” the user wrote.

Matt also questioned the pricing, saying sanitary pads should be regarded as a basic necessity.

“To be honest, sanitary pads shouldn’t cost this much. It should be a basic amenity just like food,” he stated.

Okafor Gift simply queried, “Selling pads for N25k? As how?”

Another user, Olaámi, accused celebrities of prioritizing profit over social responsibility.

“Majority of Nigerian celebrities don’t actually stand for anything; all they care about is their bottom line,” the user wrote.

APC Primary: ‘Shame on democracy, Wike now god of Rivers politics’—Arise TV’s Rufai Oseni

0

Anchor of ARISE News Morning Show, Rufai Oseni, has said the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has become the dominant force in Rivers State politics.

Oseni made the remarks on Thursday while reacting to the withdrawal of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election.

Speaking during the television program, Oseni described the political situation in Rivers State as “a shame on democracy,” alleging that one individual now exerts influence across multiple political parties.

According to him, recent developments have further exposed the reasons behind Wike’s decision to support Fubara’s emergence as governor in 2023.

He also criticized Fubara’s move to the APC, saying the governor failed to achieve the political consolidation he may have expected.

The broadcaster maintained that Wike now appears capable of controlling political structures across party lines and could eventually determine who emerges as the next governor of Rivers State.

Oseni, however, questioned how sustainable such political dominance would be, warning that allowing one individual to wield overwhelming influence could threaten democratic development.

“As regards Rivers, what do I say? It’s a shame on our democracy. Rivers has become two-factor authentication. A man has the right of collaboration; two political parties joined together, and the man feels like he’s God today,” Oseni said.

“Anyway, for Fubara, you have now seen the reason why he picked Fubara. All that has transpired with Fubara is the same reason why we can pick Fubara.

“If you expect me to come and explain it to you, I will not do that, because the Yorubas have been saying that it is with parables that they beat their ‘gidigbo’ drum. It is those that have sense that will understand it, and it has shown what Fubara is all about.”

Oseni further mocked Fubara’s move to the APC, saying, “You quickly went to join the APC; you couldn’t get consolidation there. So look at you today. Now they’ve brought Chinda, but let us also watch.

“Are we going to have another battle royal between Wike and Chinda? Will Wike be able to hold Chinda’s hands and keep it properly?”

He added that Wike’s influence in Rivers politics has become increasingly visible.

“Because what we are seeing increasingly is that Wike has dominated Rivers politics, take it or leave it. He’s becoming the de facto god of Rivers politics, or if not the… I don’t need to use the word “de facto”; he’s become the god if he can control two political parties and everybody is moving with him,” he stated.

Oseni said the next political battle in Rivers State would reveal whether Wike can maintain such control over the state’s political structure.

“So we’ll see. Whatever pans out, Wike will be the one to produce the next governor. But how sustainable will this hegemony be? That’s going to be the true test of our democracy,” he added.

“We can keep deceiving ourselves and think it’s a good thing, but it’s not a good thing for our democracy that one man takes it all, because we have seen what happened in Lagos.

“Lagos might soon become Rivers, if this is allowed to continue, and that’s why we should tell ourselves the hard truth at every point in time.”
