BREAKING: Dangote Refinery raises petrol price by N100/Liter nationwide

0

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a nationwide increase of N100 per liter in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), marking a major shift in the domestic fuel market.

The refinery disclosed the adjustment in a statement issued on Monday, noting that its gantry price of petrol has risen to N799 per liter, while the retail price now stands at N839 per liter. This represents an increase from the N699 gantry price and N739 retail price maintained since December 2025.

“Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per liter, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per liter,” the company said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, stated that despite the price increase, the refinery continues to supply the domestic market with approximately 50 million liters of PMS daily, adding that nationwide evacuation and distribution remain normal.

The development comes amid reports that the $20 billion refinery has resorted to gasoline imports to supplement supply following downtime at its Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) unit, according to data from energy analytics firm Kpler.

As of Monday night, retail filling stations across the country, including those operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), were dispensing petrol at prices ranging between N805 and N830 per liter. Analysts warn that Dangote’s latest adjustment could trigger a broader price increase across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

Recall that Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, had in December last year assured Nigerians that the refinery would maintain a N739 per liter retail price nationwide in a bid to edge out fuel importers.

Speaking during a media briefing on December 14, Dangote said, “We don’t want people to sell petrol for more than N740 nationwide.”

APC disowns membership card of bandit kingpin, terrorist Bello Turji

0

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has dismissed as fake a party membership card purportedly issued to notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, describing it as a calculated attempt to smear the party’s reputation.

The state APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Gusau, stressing that the card currently circulating on social media did not originate from the party.

Idris said the document was manipulated, with Turji’s photograph edited onto it to falsely portray the bandit leader as a registered APC member.

He noted that clear inconsistencies on the card exposed it as a forgery, explaining that both the date and identification number did not align with the party’s official registration records in Zamfara State.

According to him, the APC registration process is tied to National Identification Number (NIN) verification, a requirement that makes it impossible for someone like Turji to be captured in the party’s database.

The APC spokesperson further disclosed that preliminary investigations had traced the fake card to a political associate of a former party stakeholder in the state, adding that the matter had been reported to security agencies for thorough investigation.

He therefore urged the public to disregard the document, insisting that it does not reflect any official record of the APC.

The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham following the outstanding box office success of her latest movie, Oversabi Aunty, which has grossed N1 billion in Nigerian cinemas.

Nigerian  Newssphere reports that the film, released on December 19, 2025, crossed the N1 billion mark on Monday, further cementing Abraham’s status as one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmakers.

Reacting to the milestone, the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), described the achievement as another strong indicator of growth in Nigeria’s creative economy and expressed optimism about even greater accomplishments within the industry.

In a statement issued by the Managing Director of the Corporation, Ali Nuhu, the NFC noted that the feat places Abraham in an elite group of filmmakers whose works resonate culturally while also delivering strong commercial returns in a highly competitive cinema market.

According to the statement, Oversabi Aunty demonstrates how locally grounded stories, when well produced and strategically marketed, can achieve remarkable reach and impact. The corporation added that the film’s success reflects a strong understanding of the Nigerian audience, effective distribution, and the expanding cinema-going culture across the country.

Meanwhile, Toyin Abraham also took to Instagram to express gratitude to her fans and the general public for their overwhelming support, describing the achievement as a shared victory.

Kano Governor Abba Yusuf officially joins APC after dumping Kwankwaso’s NNPP

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, days after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.

Yusuf’s return to the APC marks a major political realignment in Kano and is seen as a direct break from the influence of his long-time political ally and former governor of the state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that the governor’s defection comes barely three days after he announced his resignation from the NNPP, citing prolonged internal crises and unresolved legal disputes that, according to him, have weakened the party’s cohesion across the country.

The governor had last Friday officially quit the NNPP, a development that fueled speculation about his next political move. DAILY POST had earlier reported that Yusuf was set to rejoin the ruling APC on Monday.

His defection follows a wave of exits from the NNPP in Kano State. On Sunday, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, his deputy, Muhammad Butu-Butu, the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussain, and 19 other lawmakers formally defected from the NNPP to the APC.

The mass defection of lawmakers and the governor’s return to the APC are expected to significantly alter Kano’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.

The DHQ added that officers found to have cases to answer will be arraigned before the relevant military judicial panels and tried in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service laws.

“The comprehensive investigation process, conducted in accordance with established military procedures, has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. Rivers: Wike flaws Fubara as aspirants loyal to the FCT minister clinch tickets in LGA bye-elections

Aspirants loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have emerged as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Ahoda East Constituency II and Khana Constituency II bye-elections in Rivers State.

The ruling party conducted its primary elections on Monday to select flagbearers for the polls, which are aimed at filling vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Hon. Napoleo Ukalikpe secured the APC ticket for the Ahoda East Constituency II, while Mrs. Bulabari Henrietta Loolo emerged as the party’s candidate for Khana Constituency II.

Mrs. Loolo is the widow of Hon. Dinebari Loolo, who represented Khana Constituency II in the state assembly until his death in September 2023.

Nigerian Newssphere reports that despite Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara being regarded as the leader of the APC in the state, candidates aligned with Wike’s camp prevailed in the party’s primaries for the two bye-elections.

President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between both countries, just nine days after returning from his trip to France and other parts of Europe.

The President departed from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 2:05 p.m. on Monday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the visit is designed to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye in key areas such as security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.

Onanuga explained that the visit builds on the diplomatic momentum created during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Nigeria between October 19 and 20, 2021, which helped to further solidify ties between Abuja and Ankara.

While in Türkiye, President Tinubu is expected to engage in high-level political and diplomatic discussions focused on mutual interests in finance, communications, trade, and investment. The program will also include meetings between senior officials of both countries and the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and protocol.

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also take place on the sidelines of the visit, bringing together investors from both nations to explore opportunities for economic partnership and growth.

Members of the President’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.

Also on the delegation are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the visit.

Recall that the president returned to the country on January 17, 2026, after spending about 20 days in France and other parts of Europe, having departed on December 28, 2025.

BREAKING: Sit-at-Home: Soludo orders closure of Onitsha Main Market

0

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has ordered the immediate closure of Onitsha Main Market over the continued observance of the illegal Monday sit-at-home directive.

Nigerian Newssphere  gathered that the shutdown, which took effect on Monday, will last for one week as a sanction against traders’ persistent compliance with the sit-at-home order, despite repeated warnings from the state government.

The decision follows weeks of appeals by the government urging traders, market leaders and residents to ignore the directive, which officials insist has no legal backing and has continued to cripple economic activities across the state.

Government sources disclosed that while the closure is initially for one week, it could be extended to one month if the market fails to fully reopen by next Monday. Authorities warned that such an extension would have serious economic implications for traders and supply chains within the South-East and beyond.

“This is no longer about acting out of fear or coercion. It is about restoring law, order and economic sanity in Anambra State,” a senior government official said.

Onitsha Main Market, regarded as Nigeria’s largest commercial hub, serves as a major economic lifeline for millions of traders and consumers nationwide.

The state government maintained that the continued sit-at-home observance undermines security efforts, emboldens criminal elements and portrays Anambra as unsafe for business and investment.

It also issued a stern warning to market unions, transport operators and individuals allegedly enforcing or promoting the sit-at-home order, stressing that anyone found aiding or abetting the practice would face legal and regulatory sanctions.

Security agencies have reportedly been placed on alert to enforce compliance and protect traders willing to open their shops.

While some traders welcomed the government’s hardline approach, describing it as overdue, others expressed fear and uncertainty, citing lingering security concerns and past incidents linked to defiance of sit-at-home orders.

The Anambra State Government, however, reassured residents that adequate security measures are being put in place to safeguard lives and property, urging traders to cooperate in the collective interest of economic stability.

As next Monday approaches, attention remains firmly on Onitsha Main Market, where the decision to reopen could significantly shape Anambra’s economic outlook in the coming weeks.

‘Just crazy’—Davido fumes over $50,000 wedding debt claim

0

Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has dismissed reports alleging he owes $50,000 in wedding planning fees, describing the claim as “crazy.”

The singer reacted on Sunday evening following widespread reports that Funke Bucknor-Obruthe, CEO of the event planning company behind his wedding to Chioma, had accused him of failing to pay the outstanding amount.

The allegation, which quickly went viral on social media, was accompanied by a purported screenshot of a chat in which the event planner was said to have threatened legal action over the alleged debt.

However, Funke Bucknor-Obruthe debunked the report, stating clearly on her Instagram story that the information circulating online was “false and misleading.”

Reacting to the controversy on X (formerly Twitter), Davido expressed outrage over the claim, describing it as insulting and unfounded.

“This is just crazy atp (at this point),” the singer wrote.

SuperComputer predicts EPL winner after Man Utd 3–2 win against Arsenal

0

Opta’s SuperComputer has maintained its prediction that Arsenal will clinch the 2025/26 Premier League title, despite the Gunners suffering a 3–2 home defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

A spectacular long-range effort from Matheus Cunha brought Arsenal’s unbeaten home run to an end and trimmed their lead at the summit to four points, following victories for Manchester City and Aston Villa over the weekend.

Even so, Opta still rates Mikel Arteta’s side as clear favourites to lift the trophy, which would be their first league title in more than two decades.

According to the projections, Arsenal have an 84.44 per cent chance of finishing top. Manchester City are next with an 8.38 per cent probability, while Aston Villa stand at 7.09 per cent. Liverpool’s chances are rated at under one per cent.

With 15 matches remaining in the campaign, the title race is set for a tense run-in.
