Nigerian and Atletico Madrid forward Ademola Lookman etched his name into the club’s history books on Saturday after scoring in the 4-2 LaLiga victory over Espanyol.
A brace from Alexander Sorloth and additional goals from Giuliano Simeone and Lookman sealed all three points for Diego Simeone’s men on home soil.
According to OptaJose, Lookman has now scored four goals in his first six appearances in all competitions for Atletico, equalling the club’s best start since the 2013/14 season—a feat previously achieved by Luis Suarez during the 2020/21 campaign.
The Nigerian international joined Atletico from Serie A side Atalanta in the January transfer window and has quickly established himself as a key attacking threat for the Spanish giants.
Lookman will aim to continue his impressive form when Atletico hosts Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash on Tuesday. The first leg ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw last week, with Lookman among the scorers.
