Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the widow of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has died after sustaining injuries in a recent joint United States–Israeli airstrike in Tehran, Iranian media reported on Monday. She was 79.
According to reports by Iranian outlets, including Tasnim News Agency, Bagherzadeh was wounded during the same strike that claimed the life of her husband at their residential compound in the capital.
She reportedly succumbed to her injuries some days later.
The attack forms part of the escalating military confrontation between Iran and the United States–Israel alliance.
Iranian authorities have not released detailed information on the precise circumstances surrounding her death.
Bagherzadeh was born in Mashhad and was the sister of Hassan Khojaste Bagherzadeh, a former deputy director of Iran’s state broadcasting service.
Despite her husband’s long and influential political career, she largely maintained a low public profile throughout his years in power.
