Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has reportedly been stranded in Qatar due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, Soccernet reports.
The 32-year-old defender recently completed a move to Al Ahli SC after departing Saudi Arabia in January. However, the current security situation in the region has prevented him from leaving Qatar.
Football activities and commercial flights have been suspended as a result of rising military tensions involving Iran and Israel in the Gulf region.
Iran reportedly launched strikes on strategic locations in response to what it described as attacks by the United States and Israel. Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Defence stated that its air defense systems successfully intercepted missiles directed at the country as part of precautionary security measures.
Following the temporary closure of airspace by Qatar and neighboring states, several foreigners, travelers, and professional athletes—including Troost-Ekong—remain unable to depart the country.
