Former Gov Gunmen Ngige escapes assassination attempt after gunmen attack left one dead
The convoy of former Anambra State Governor, Dr Chris Ngige, was attacked on the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
Ngige’s media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed the incident on Thursday, explaining that the former governor was not in the convoy when the armed men struck.
According to him, a policeman in the pilot vehicle was shot, and the assailants — who were dressed in police and military uniforms — stole his rifle and uniform. The vehicle was heavily riddled with bullets.
A woman who attempted to record the attack was tragically shot dead, while a shop owner who rushed out to check what was happening was also hit by bullets. He is currently receiving medical attention and expected to recover.
Chukwuelobe noted that the injured policemen have undergone surgery and are responding well to treatment. He added that Ngige has spoken with him, expressing sadness over the incident and pledging support for the victims, while also condoling with the family of the woman killed during the attack.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
