The Premier League title race has taken another twist after Arsenal defeated Chelsea 2-1 on Sunday, prompting fresh projections from the Opta SuperComputer.
The Gunners went ahead through William Saliba, but Chelsea drew level after a Piero Hincapie own goal. However, Jurrien Timber restored Arsenal’s advantage, heading home from Declan Rice’s corner to seal all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The result leaves Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, although they have played a game more than the reigning champions.
Following the latest round of matches, the Opta SuperComputer now gives Arsenal an 83.26 percent probability of lifting the title this season. Manchester City’s chances have dropped to 16.6 percent.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa saw their slim hopes dented after a 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Villa have been assigned just a 0.08 percent chance of emerging champions as the title race enters its decisive phase.
