Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed he would be open to returning to Old Trafford to work under Michael Carrick, as the club moves closer to appointing Carrick as interim manager.
Manchester United are finalizing plans to install Carrick following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, with the former midfielder understood to be in advanced discussions with the club. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.
Rooney, who enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at United as a player, said he would be willing to join Carrick’s coaching staff if approached.
Speaking on the BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney said, “Of course I would. It’s a no-brainer.
“I’m not begging for a job here, by the way. Just so everyone knows, if I was asked to go in, of course I would. Appointing the manager is the most important thing.”
His comments have fuelled speculation about a potential shock return to the club as United begins a new chapter on the touchline.
