EPL: Guardiola explains why Manchester City was held to 3-3 draw by Everton

Manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City struggled to cope with the physical approach of Everton in their 3-3 Premier League draw on Monday night.

City appeared in control early on after Jeremy Doku handed the visitors the lead in the first half. However, Everton responded strongly after the break, turning the game around with a spirited display.

Substitute Thierno Barry equalized before Jake O’Brien put the hosts ahead with a header. Barry then grabbed his second of the night to extend Everton’s advantage.

The city fought back late on, with Erling Haaland and Doku finding the net to rescue a point at the Hill Dickinson.

Reflecting on the match, Guardiola praised his side’s first-half performance but admitted they struggled after the interval.

“We played an outstanding first half. It was so difficult with their physicality,” Guardiola said.

“In the second half, they made a step up. We didn’t have as much control, and we gave away the goal. After that, they came back and made it a proper English game, so aggressive in the duels.

“But in general, we made a really good performance. Everton away is always difficult, and I give credit to them for their composure and aggression.”
