BREAKING: Residents flee as suspected herdsmen attack another community in Benue State

Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, fled their homes on Tuesday following a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community in the early hours of the day, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee to safety.

A native of the community and Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for the 2027 elections, Hon. Jimmy Nart, said the attack was still ongoing at the time of reporting.

In a message shared on Tuesday, Nart said: “I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself.”

The latest incident occurred less than 48 hours after suspected armed herdsmen allegedly attacked the Otukpo-Nobi community in the same local government area, where more than 18 people were reportedly killed.

As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties resulting from Tuesday’s attack had not been independently verified.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, did not respond to telephone calls or a text message seeking confirmation of the incident.

Meanwhile, residents said tension remained high in the area as many families continued to flee their homes over fears of further attacks.
