Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has alleged that the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, is being subjected to political persecution.
Oseni made the allegation on Monday while reacting to the controversy surrounding Obi’s alleged violation of airport parking regulations.
DAILY POST recalls that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, had accused Obi of breaching airport parking rules and urged him to tender a public apology.
Speaking during Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oseni argued that the reactions to the incident reinforced claims that the former Anambra State governor was being unfairly targeted.
“You will be a blind man to say that there is no political persecution of Peter Obi. Their reactions just confirmed it,” he said.
The television presenter maintained that there had been previous incidents at airports that did not attract the same level of criticism from authorities, suggesting that Obi was being treated differently.
To support his claim, Oseni cited an incident involving Fuji musician KWAM 1, whom he said was allowed to remain in front of an aircraft without attracting widespread condemnation.
“We were in this country when they were begging KWAM 1 that went to stay in front of the plane. If Peter Obi had done such a thing, the country would have scattered,” he said.
Oseni also referenced comments made by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in August 2025, when the governor warned Obi against entering the state without prior security clearance.
“We were still in this country when Governor Okpebholo said Peter Obi should not enter Edo State without security clearance. Is that not political persecution?” Oseni asked.
