Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared Tuesday a work-free day across the state to commemorate the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde.
Makinde also congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Oyo State and across Nigeria on the commencement of the new Islamic calendar year.
The governor urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for sustained peace, unity and prosperity in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
He further called on residents of the state to remain vigilant and security-conscious before, during and after the Hijrah celebrations.
Makinde advised members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies or through the state’s emergency number, 615.
