2026 World Cup: Lamouchi becomes first coach to be relieved of his duty

Tunisia have dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s humiliating 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lamouchi becomes the first manager to lose his job at the tournament after Tunisia’s poor start raised concerns over the team’s prospects in the competition.

The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed that plans are underway to appoint Mondher Kebaier as interim head coach to take charge of the Carthage Eagles for the remainder of the tournament.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development in a post on X.

” Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi has been sacked after defeat on World Cup opening game against Sweden.

“Plans are under way to appoint Mondher Kebaier as the new national team coach on an interim basis, Federation confirm,” Romano wrote.

Kebaier is now expected to step in immediately as Tunisia seek to revive their World Cup campaign after the crushing loss to Sweden.
