Dangote Refinery-backed MRS filling stations have increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Abuja, DAILY POST can confirm.
Checks by the Nigerian Newssphere show that MRS outlets in the Federal Capital Territory adjusted their retail price to N875 per liter, up from N839, representing a N36 increase.
A manager at one of the stations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development on Friday.
MRS Filling Station is owned by Sayyu Idris Dantata, a half-brother to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
The latest hike suggests that the recent reduction in petrol gantry price by Dangote Refinery—which cut prices by N25 from N799 to N744 per liter—has not translated into lower retail prices at the pump.
The increase has also effectively erased the price gap between MRS and other marketers, including Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
As of Friday night, petrol prices across Abuja and surrounding areas now range between N875 and N889 per liter.
Nigerian Newssphere recalls that earlier this week, the 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Refinery, which has recently ramped up operations to full capacity, announced a reduction in its petrol gantry price in a bid to compete with imported fuel.
