Bandits killed six farmers killed in Niger

No fewer than six farmers were reportedly killed on Friday night during a fresh attack by suspected armed bandits in Unguwar Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident was disclosed on Saturday in a post on X by Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist known for reporting on insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest.

According to the report, the attackers invaded the community at about 10:00 p.m. and opened fire on farmers who were working on their farmlands at the time.

After the attack, the assailants reportedly fled the area, leaving residents traumatised and mourning the victims.

The incident has heightened fears over the worsening security situation in the area, especially among rural farming communities that have increasingly come under violent attacks.

Residents have called on security agencies to urgently step up efforts to protect lives and property in remote communities.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities and relevant security agencies have not issued an official statement on the incident.
