The Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, on Thursday paid a visit to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The visit was disclosed by Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, in a post on his official Facebook page.
According to him, the meeting between Bishop Kukah and the detained IPOB leader was cordial and uplifting, describing their interaction as one filled with laughter and joy. He added that the cleric offered prayers for Kanu during the visit.
“Their conversations were mostly filled with laughter and extreme joy. He prayed alongside his team of faithfuls,” Prince Emmanuel wrote.
Nnamdi Kanu was, on November 20, convicted on all seven counts of terrorism brought against him by the Federal Government and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Following the judgment, Kanu was transferred to the Sokoto Correctional Centre, a move that has continued to attract criticism and opposition from rights activists and members of his legal team.
