The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh on Sunday tendered his resignation letter to the assembly.
In a handwritten letter dated 24th August 2025 and shared on his Facebook page with the words “Let there be peace”, Dajoh formally announced his resignation, noting that his decision was taken “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”
He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him during his tenure, describing the opportunity to serve as Speaker as an honour.
“I sincerely appreciate my dear colleagues for the trust they placed in me and for giving me the rare privilege to be the first among equals,” he stated.
Dajoh further assured that he would remain steadfast in his legislative duties and committed to serving his constituency.
“I pledge to continue discharging my responsibilities as a legislator and as the representative of the good people of Gboko West State Constituency,” he added.
This is coming amid plots by some members of the House to impeach the State Governor, Hyacinth Alia.
Sources told NEWS SPHERE that the Speaker decided to step aside in order not to be accused of orchestrating the planned impeachment.
