Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, has urged president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies to arrest anyone linked to terrorism, regardless of their social standing, position, or relationship to him.
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary, Musa said he would not shield even his own relatives if found culpable.
“If my brother, my son—if he is doing this thing—he should be picked. The law should take its course,” he declared.
The lawmaker raised alarm over the rapid escalation of insecurity across the country, noting that what began “in one local government” had now spread nationwide.
Expressing frustration, Musa criticised instances where suspected bandits allegedly arrested with weapons were released without proper investigation or prosecution.
“They were arrested with AK-47s and released with AK-47s—no gunshots, no arrest, nothing. And then tomorrow, we wake up to another banditry. Why should it end like that?” he queried.
He appealed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to take stronger leadership in confronting the nation’s security challenges, assuring him of the full support of the Senate.
“Mr. President, it is on you as our leader to tackle this issue head-on, without any fear or favour. We will stand for you—we voted for you… We must own our responsibilities,” he said.
