Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have begun converging on the union’s national secretariat in Abuja as a nationwide protest against worsening insecurity across the country kicks off on Tuesday.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, is already on the ground alongside key labor leaders and civil society allies. Also present are activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and members of the Revolution Now Movement.
The gathering has attracted a heavy security presence, with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services (DSS) deployed around the venue.
Recall that the NLC had earlier announced December 17 for the commencement of a nationwide protest to draw attention to the growing insecurity and demand urgent action from the authorities.
On Tuesday Ajaero and the NLC had met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Aso Rock over the protest.
