The Nigerian naira recorded a modest appreciation against the United States dollar on Monday at the official foreign exchange market.
Official data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira strengthened to N1,451.82 per dollar on Monday, improving from N1,454.41 recorded at the close of trading on Friday.
This represents a gain of N2.59 against the dollar within one trading session.
However, the local currency weakened slightly at the parallel market, where it depreciated by N2 to trade at N1,493 per dollar on Monday, compared to N1,495 previously.
The mixed performance comes amid a steady increase in Nigeria’s external reserves, which stood at $45.47 billion as of December 12, 2025.
Nigerian Newssphere reports that the naira appreciated against the dollar only once at the official market in the previous week after several days of decline.
