Visa fraud: You will be permanently banned- US Embassy warns Nigerians

The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a warning to Nigerians over visa fraud, stressing that providing false information or submitting forged documents could result in severe and irreversible consequences.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the embassy said dishonesty in visa applications violates US immigration laws and attracts stiff penalties.

It warned that applicants found guilty of lying or presenting fake documents could face permanent bans from entering the United States.

“Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under US immigration law. This means you will never go,” the embassy stated.

The warning coincided with a meeting between the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements between both countries.

According to the embassy, discussions at the meeting centred on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, with the United States reaffirming its commitment to sustained collaboration with Nigeria.

The engagement also came amid growing international attention on Nigeria’s security situation. Recently, some US lawmakers have expressed concerns over violent attacks on communities, particularly in parts of the North and Middle Belt, describing them as threats to religious freedom and calling for closer US-Nigeria cooperation to protect vulnerable groups
