The Abuja chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has inaugurated a Projects Committee to coordinate its 2026 Igbo Day celebration in the Federal Capital Territory.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Chief Mrs. Ginika Tor, was inaugurated on Wednesday in Abuja by the chapter President, Hon. Chief Andrew Ugwu.
Speaking to journalists before the inauguration, Chief Ugwu said the unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society would be a highlight of the Igbo Day program. He described the initiatives as a reflection of the organization’s “unwavering commitment to culture, unity, and the economic empowerment of Ndigbo in the FCT and beyond.”

The celebration is scheduled for September 29, 2026 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. It will showcase Igbo heritage through language, dance, cuisine, attire, arts, exhibitions, and discourse on the values of _Igwebuike_ — “unity is strength.”
Chief Ugwu also announced plans for the maiden Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT Chapter Economic and Housing Summit, aimed at tackling the housing deficit among Igbos in Abuja.
He called on “all sons and daughters of Igboland resident in the FCT, Southeast Nigeria, and the diaspora, as well as our friends and well-wishers” to participate. Corporate partners, government agencies, and the media were also invited to support and amplify the initiatives.
Chief Favour Odeta was named Project Secretary of the committee.
Speaking for the team, Hon. Chief Mrs. Ginika Tor thanked the leadership for the confidence reposed in them and expressed optimism that the 2026 Igbo Day would be a resounding success.
