A faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led by Tajudeen Baruwa has taken control of the union’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The development occurred early Monday when members of the faction stormed the headquarters, asserting authority over the union’s operations.
Efforts to reach Baruwa for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
The takeover marks the latest twist in the prolonged leadership crisis between Baruwa and Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
The dispute dates back to 2024, when MC Oluomo emerged as NURTW national president in November. However, a court later ruled in favor of Baruwa after the matter was challenged.
Despite the judgment, MC Oluomo has continued to function as the union’s president, deepening the leadership rift within the organization.
