Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a monthly transport allowance of N10,000 for civil servants to cushion the impact of rising fuel costs.
The governor made the announcement on Monday while overseeing the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo town.
Makinde stated that the allowance would run for an initial period of three months, beginning from March. He added that details on how the funds would be disbursed would be communicated through official government channels.
According to the governor, the initiative is part of the state government’s response to ongoing economic pressures, particularly the increasing cost of transportation linked to the energy crisis.
He noted that the situation has adversely affected workers’ welfare and productivity, stressing that the support is designed to ease financial burdens and ensure continued efficient service delivery across government ministries, departments, and agencies.
