2027: Leave the ranks of forces of darkness— Fani-Kayode tells Dele Momodu

Nigeria’s ambassador designate to Germany and former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has publicly responded to remarks made by media personality and politician Dele Momodu after Momodu compared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with former military ruler Sani Abacha during a television interview.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Fani-Kayode said Momodu’s comments reflected what he described as “a degenerating and worrisome level of cognitive dissonance,” expressing concern about the tone of the publisher’s recent political remarks.

He also criticized Momodu’s appearance during the interview with Channels Television presenter Seun Okinbaloye, saying he “sounded drained, tired, and broken and spoke little sense.”

Fani-Kayode advised Momodu to take a break from political commentary, urging him to “get his breath back and attempt to overhaul his intellectual engine.” He argued that Momodu’s criticisms of the president and other government officials were not constructive.

The former minister also targeted the opposition African Democratic Congress, stating that the party was not adequately prepared for serious political contests.

According to him, the ADC was like “a badly patched-up inflatable plastic lifeboat that has not even managed to find its bearing or leave the harbor,” adding that it lacked “engine, sails, oars… navigational equipment… firepower… [and] a war chest.”

He further stated that the party “needs to be built up, better schooled, better trained, better equipped, better educated, and better prepared before it can enter the field and… be regarded as an opposition party.”

Fani-Kayode also defended the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Tinubu’s administration, writing, “To be sure Tinubu started well, he is doing well & he will, by the grace of God, end well with no regrets in 2031.”

In a personal appeal to Momodu, he urged him to reconsider his political stance and “leave the ranks of the forces of darkness and join us.” He also criticized Momodu’s association with the ADC, saying it was like “a gentle, beautiful… flamingo trapped in a sea of ugly… cackling & relentless crows & vultures.”
