Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed uncertainty over securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in a video address to his supporters, Obi acknowledged that clinching the party’s ticket is not guaranteed but stressed his commitment to the broader political cause.
“Someone asked me how I am sure the ADC will give me the presidential ticket. I cannot be certain. What matters is that we are committed to a cause. I keep asking myself how we got here and what would happen if we walked away from this project,” he said.
Despite the uncertainty, Obi reaffirmed his resolve to pursue his presidential ambition, noting that he remains undeterred by alleged threats.
“I am not certain of the ADC presidential ticket, but I am fighting for it, and I am not afraid to campaign anywhere in Nigeria,” he added.
The former candidate of the Labour Party also commended his supporters for their resilience, highlighting the difficulties of operating within Nigeria’s opposition space.
He expressed gratitude to loyal followers who have continued to stand by him despite the lack of immediate rewards.
“I thank you for your sacrifice. It is not easy to be in the opposition in Nigeria, and for those who continue to support even when there is no return, I am grateful,” Obi said.
However, he admitted lingering concerns about the future, particularly regarding political alliances and loyalty among stakeholders.
“How can we be sure that those we are working with today will not abandon us tomorrow? I wish we could be certain, but we cannot,” he stated.
