Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has described the 2027 presidential election as a potentially fierce contest, likening it to a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) bout.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ndume reacted to concerns about the growing opposition challenge facing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with prominent political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde expected to play key roles ahead of the election.
Asked whether the APC and President Bola Tinubu could withstand the pressure from opposition forces in 2027, Ndume said the ruling party should not underestimate its rivals.
“I am not that worried about it, but at the same time I don’t take opponents for granted. I have said this several times on television, and that is the mistake most of us are making, especially those around the President. They have difficulty telling him the facts,” he said.
“We are going to struggle it out together; it can be hard like the WWE. It’s going to be a tough fight.”
Ndume also recalled reactions to his previous comments about political strategies within the APC.
“As I said, even when I made the statement that we are going to reciprocate what the President did to us, many people I did not expect called me and complained,” he said.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu and the APC, stressing that the party would work together ahead of the election.
“The President is my President, he is in my party, and we are going to struggle it out together,” Ndume said.
He added that some of the opposition figures being mentioned as potential challengers were familiar political opponents.
“This is not the first time. Peter Obi has tried before, Atiku has tried before. They are not new in the arena,” he added.
