Why Trump-led US captured president of Venezuela—Senator Mike Lee

United States Senator Mike Lee has explained that President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro was captured by the US military to face criminal charges.

Senator Lee disclosed in a statement on his X account, quoting a telephone conversation he had with US Secretary Marco Rubio.

He described Maduro’s arrest as a kinetic action deployed to protect and defend the US.

According to him, the action falls within President Donald Trump’s authority under Article II of the Constitution.

He said, “Just got off the phone with Secretary Rubio. He informed me that Nicolás Maduro has been arrested by U.S. personnel to stand trial on criminal charges in the United States and that the kinetic action we saw tonight was deployed to protect and defend those executing the arrest warrant.

“This action likely falls within the president’s inherent authority under Article II of the Constitution to protect U.S. personnel from an actual or imminent attack.”

Nigerian Newssphere reports that Trump announced on X, Truth Social, that the US military has captured Maduro.

However, Iran had condemned US action, citing a breach of sovereignty.
